Hi, I recently got into UMich and plan to attend there in the Fall of 2015. I’m making the move from Los Angeles, so I’ve never had a “real” winter. I want to buy clothing over the summer to be prepared by the time school starts. What do I need to buy (jackets, boots, etc.) and is there anything else I need to prepare for? Thank you!! 
It would be cheaper and more available if you buy them at Ann Arbor. There is no reason to waste your luggage space.
It will be warm through most of September and comfortable until end of October (most likely). Winter jackets not needed until November or December. There are a TON of places to shop and Briarwood (the mall) is a short bus ride away. The bus is easy and free.
