I am currently 17 years old and I would like to know, from the parents, what would be the best route to take besides going to college at my age. Should I apply for certain licenses? Take internships? Try to get a specific kind of job? etc. My mom is suggesting getting a real estate license so I can get an idea of managing housing finance. Any other suggestions?

“Best Route” is what’s best for you! Real estate is certainly interesting - but obtaining a license is, I believe, a significant investment. What are you (not your mom) interested in?

Even if you don’t use your college degree to earn a living, an ‘away’ college experience is the best route for nearly every seventeen year old, IMHO. Going away to college offers a wonderful rest stop between childhood and adulthood, a point of reflection and an unparalleled opportunity to expand a developing brain.

It’s hard to develop a brain when you’re working to pay the rent and raise the kids. That’s why parents seem so dull by comparison, haha.

Agreed.

I’k suggest finding a job. You can go to college later & be a more focused student after spending some time in the “real world.”
