What to do in Asheville, NC

I will be helping D1 drive her car and belongings home from UNC after graduation. We plan to spend a couple of days in Asheville. Other than visiting the Biltmore Mansion, what are some things we shouldn’t miss?

I don’t know if there are any Southern Baptists out there (or recovering Southern Baptists, like me) but I have extremely fond memories of being at Ridgecrest, which is a camp/conference facility in the mountains outside of Asheville. The Presbyterians have one, too (Montreat, I believe). Anyway, there has to be somewhere to hike and generally hang out in the mountains.

Sliding Rock in nearby Brevard is fun. There are hiking trails off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Downtown Asheville has lots of interesting little shops, especially if you are outdoorsy, crunchy-granola, earth children types.

We would love to go hiking! Guess that gives me extra incentive to get off the couch and start my workout (I have been procrastinating all morning).

Chimney Rock State Park is nearby - hiking, lookouts, etc.

Stroll around downtown. There are great restaurants and shops, including bookstores and craft stores.
