I will be a Junior next fall and want to do s o m e t h i n g this summer to shows admissions that I don’t just spend my summers twiddling my thumbs. The problem with this is I will be on a family trip until July 7th. *School starts on August 14th for me.
I will only be able to take one semester of summer school because of this and the only courses available are Creative Writing and Trigonometry. Math has never been my strong suit so I think I will end up with a B in the course (even with a tutor’s help).
I can’t take courses at my local community college either and I won’t have the time to take online courses either because wifi won’t be available for me until after July 7th.
Do you have any suggestions? Should I just take creative writing?
HELP

Don’t bother worrying too much about taking college courses over the summer. That doesn’t demonstrate much to colleges- it just shows them that you do a lot of schoolwork, but aren’t very interesting. Try looking at employment or volunteer opportunities- even if you aren’t particularly religious, there are bound to be a number of Vacation Bible School activities and the like; check with a local animal shelter if they need help; maybe see what sort of summer camps there are and apply to be an assistant camp counselor or cook. Again, colleges don’t care too much about how much schoolwork you do outside of school- unless you’re working toward a major academic achievement, they’d much rather see broad interests and commitment outside of academics.

The problem is that most of those start before I get back home.
I will also be volunteer at a children’s grief center too, but that is only every other week. Is that enough? Can you think of anything that I can do on my own that doesn’t have a definite start date (since I will be out of town for most of the summer).
