What to do when a package disappears?

Long story short, my mom sent me something in the mail using usps (via newegg if it matters). It had delivery confirmation but not signature confirmation. It was confirmed as delivered last Saturday but I haven’t received it; I spoke with my local post office and my deliveryperson and while they were very nice, they didn’t come up with anything helpful.

I’m not actually a parent but this forum always has good advice so I thought i’d try posting.

Thanks in advance!

Was it delivered to a mail box? A front porch? Was it left with someone? Do you live in a dorm, an apartment complex?

I sent a package to D after Thanksgiving priority mail and it was “delivered” to an apartment box. She never got it. 6 weeks later it was returned to me as being “unclaimed.” My guess is that it was put in one of the package boxes, the key was put in the wrong mail box, and eventually it came back to me. Or the slip to pick up was put in the wrong box, etc etc. USPS could not explain.

It may still turn up. What was in it?

I have stuff delivered to my office and I had one package that was indicated as delivered (and, perhaps signed for) but it wasn’t here. I called the post office and they spoke to the driver and they determined that it was dropped off at another company. They got it back to me in a few days.

If you’re living in a dorm… At my dorm, USPS would list things as “delivered” about a day before I actually got them. This is because they were considered delivered whenever they were received by the nearest post office, and it took an extra day for processing. I don’t know if this happens other places or not.

It was put into a mail box to which I have the only key, and size would not have been an issue. It was marked as delivered last saturday. I don’t really know what could have gone wrong.

It would be great if it turned up somehow! Right now my mom is working on negotiating with newegg to see if they could possibly send another one.

Thanks all for your input! Much appreciated.
