u of chicago
northwestern
wellesley
yale or harvard, but those are ooooooooober reaches</p>
<p>so im in the top 15%, projected 30 on act and somewhere near the equiv of a 1350 or 1400 on the new sat</p>

<p>Yeah. 1) Why H and Y, they are out of reach unless you have a strong hook. Apply to some other Ivies, they are better reaches. 2) apply to better known LACs like Vassar, Williams, Middlebury and maybe he will be cool with it. Why is he against it, the top LACs have excellent grad placement and do amazingly well with job recruiters.</p>
<p>Shoot 'em, and collect the insurance money.</p>

<p>Columbia and Dartmouth I hear are great for preparing kids for med school, but then again it would seem that all ivies would prepare students for graduate school well period. Like slipper said top LACs prepare students for grad school just as well as the ivies also, show your parents the placement statistics for those schools and the other pros they have and see what they say then.</p>
<p>You also might want to look at University of Rochester. Fairly small university with good premed but also strong in areas outside of science. Don’t know if they have Latin, though.</p>
<p>I would say Dartmouth is by far the most LAC like of the Ivies, but I think its a reach. Great med school placement to boot.</p>

Can you please clarify something-- Does your dad not want you to look at small LAC’s or just not the lesser-known LACs??Is the issue the size or the name?? Did you know that Washington and Jefferson , a lesser known school, has a high percentage of applicants getting into med schools each year???</p>

If your dod doesn’t want you to apply to LAC you should look up some stat showing them the schools acceptance rate into medical school, because I know some LAC’s out there show that.</p>
<p>30 ACT/1350 SAT and top 15% is unlikely to to get you into any of the schools on your list other than your safeties.</p>
<p>If you are going to go pre-med, small LACs are excellent, as good advising and recomendations will be easier to get in a smaller academic context. And for whatever it’s worth, the percentage of selective LAC med school applicants accepted to med school is likely higher than the percentages from your safety schools. In your area, schools like Macalester (match/reach), Grinnell, Beloit, Lawrence, St. Olaf and Earlham would be better choices than your safety schools.</p>
<p>BTW. . .don’t fall for the “latin/classics are good for pre-med” story. I believe that it is true that the percentage of med school applicants with classics degrees that get into med school is higher than the percentage of bio majors that get in, but think about how that might be the case without classics actually being a “better major” for law school? Extra credit for a concise explanation.</p>
