What to do?

I’m currently a sophmore, but Yale is my absolute dream school. I wanted to know how I could improve in order to get accepted into Yale.

I took the PSATs in October: 63 CR, 51 Math, 68 Writing. (89 percentile compared to juniors, 182 selection index).

My grades for Freshman year:

Advanced Physical Science Honors: 86

I missed 34 days of school at the end of the year because I had swine flu.

I also took up piano again (I played for a year when I was 6-7). I have lessons once or twice a week.

I might be taking more acting classes in winter/spring. However, they’re really expensive and I should focus on my school work.
This summer, I am attending an acting camp in August.
I am also applying to academic summer programs for July. Any suggestions? I want to apply to the programs at Columbia and Brown. Are there any programs in France? I really love French. I know there is one at the Sorbonne ([Summer Study Paris France Sorbonne Teen Summer Abroad](summerstudy.com)), but are there any others? Any academic camps with good reputations?

I am currently working on starting my own charity to help with special needs kids.

I know I need to improve my grades (obviously), but is there anything else? Any hope for me? I am also applying to a different high school (an Ivy-feeder school). I’m not athletic, so I don’t play sports. The only sport I can play is Field Hockey, which my school doesn’t offer. The school I am applying to, does, as well as other clubs/activities I would want.

I’m currently working with my English teacher on my analytical reading skills and on my essay writing. I’m also working on my vocabulary (I have over 150 flashcards!) and grammar. There is nothing I can do about math, because I’m in Geometry and I didn’t learn most of the test yet (but it does say I scored better than 75% of sophmores).

Thoughts?

I also did some tutoring in Freshman year, and was on National Junior Honor Society in 7th and 8th grade.

bump

its a bit worry to start worrying now, but just keep up your grades and be sure to do ECs that are meaningful to you, not just ones to fill your resume (colleges look for passion)

Thanks, but it’s never too early to start worrying. I really want to go to Yale, and I have for a while. I’m just trying to map my way there.

Try to find one area that you really love and then devote a bunch of time to it. Like marine biology? Head a local fund that provides for an aquarium, or something like that. Just do something you’re passionate about.

Um, I’d work on upping those test scores. Without a +2000, I think your chances really, really go down. Buy a prep book, study, learn how to cream the SAT. It’s possible, I promise :)

Yeah, I’m going to work on getting a 2300+ on my SAT. I am actually studying as we speak. Any other suggestions? Really great summer programs maybe? Other advice? Anything is welcome. My passions are acting, writing, reading, psychology and fashion. As far as charity goes, I care about people. All my charity work currently revolves&will continue to revolve around people. I do not intend on doing much work with environment or animals unless it’s a particularly interesting cause. I especially love kids.
