Mine is 4.0 both unweighted and weighted–I figured, put 4.0 unweighted, because it looks better than 4.0 weighted. Which is better to put down?

(Im not trying to make this be a secret bragging thread because others have like 2360 SATs and what have you–I am genuinely fumbling with specifics)

4.0 unweighted…weighted is usually on a scale higher than 4.0, so 4.0 weighted sounds low. And weighted is more arbitrary because every school does it differently.
Did you not take honors classes?

I did take honors and AP classes. All of our school’s GPA weighting is off of a 4.0 scale. I selected 4 scale with unweighted and 4.0

If your school calculates both, use the weighted… just mark that it’s off a 4 point scale if that is indeed what your school uses.

This is straight from the Common App directions…

“Reporting Class Rank and GPA
You should report your current Class Rank and GPA, even if they might change later in the school year. If your school does not rank, select “None” from the drop down menu. If your school calculates both weighted and unweighted Class Rank/GPA, report the weighted value. If your school does not calculate a cumulative numerical GPA, or if it uses a GPA scale that is different than the options available in the drop down menu, leave the Cumulative GPA field blank”

Aw crud. I already have an application sent to Uconn and Quinnipiac with what I described previously. Am I screwed?

(or rather, should I be worried)

Of course not. It’ll be just fine. They’ll be more interested in the classes you took than the overall GPA and really, it’s not like they will frown at a 4.0 UW

Okay, thanks. I will fix it for future applications. Thank you again for all your help!

My suggestion is just use the way it is shown on your transcript. It does not really matter how your w or uw GPA look as all schools will go through your transcript and may even re-calculate your GPA. My D’s school also has a weird wGPA system that cap at 4.0. So it only increase the GPA for those taking honor and AP classes and scored A- or less. For straight A or A+ students, it is 4.0 w or uw.

Based on this statement, your high school does not weight. You do not have a weighted GPA to report - it doesn’t exist. You were correct to report your GPA as UW4.0.
