What To Wear to Frat Semi-Formal

I got invited to a Semi-Formal dinner to a frat.

What should I wear? In this case, does “semi-formal” follow the traditional definition http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d7/Preprom.jpg?

In other words, do I need to wear a suit jacket? Or will some black dress pants, a shirt and a tie suffice?

If a jacket is required, is there anywhere I can rent on in Ithaca for cheap?

The brothers usually have jackets to start off the night. By the time the dancing starts it comes right off in a heartbeat =D

that pic is too formal. wear a suit with a normal tie (not that bowtie) and maybe a non-white shirt. depending on the frat it might be less formal, but im guessing you’re a freshman so its better to be better dressed to be on the safe side. all the jackets come off pretty early anyway.

if you want you can pm what frat it is and i’ll prob be able to give you a better idea of how they dress (some are known to be more formal dressers than others)

you obviously know the brothers (you may even have someones number). they wont penalize you if you call them up or text them to ask. better on the safe side. i would ask the brother who you feel most comfortable with, though

OP -That picture looks quite formal to me. You should tone it down for a semi.
