In my opinion there is something to be said to follow the trends a bit or one becomes too dated.

I wear skinny jeans and love them but it’s weird to see them on guys, imo.

I just hope in 20 years I won’t look back at pictures and say, “what the **** was I thinking*!”

visions of every picture of me wearing clothing with ginormous shoulder pads

I like the skinny jean look on the kids. But to me it doesn’t translate to dress clothes, for girls or guys. In a skinny pant, they look underdressed and too casual. Plus I haven’t been able to find skinny pants with a high enough waist to cover the undies for D or S (note: discount/resale shopper only - perhaps that’s the problem).

Confetti, maybe your kids need lower cut undies.

DD wears skinny cuts…but she is a size 4 who is 20 something. DS wears a skinny leg jean…at first I thought they looked funny but really, he looks great in them…he is very slim cut.

The look this winter around town is tights (skinny pants) with riding boots. I am sure at some point I am going to look back at those pictures and wonder what I was thinking. Large shoulder pads is another one. Thank goodness my hair was not good for big hair, so I was spared of that.

A sib got a perm in the 80s unbeknownst to our parents and when big hair was in. Unfortunately the senior pics were scheduled that week. Every person who comes into our parent’s house and sees the big framed photo starts laughing and pointing. We’ve all had our “bad trend what the heck was i thinking” moment in life captured forever I’m sure. Along with ginormous shoulder pads there are several photos of me in 1980s Kathryn Connover dresses with the dropped waist and poofy shoulders…pictures I’d like destroyed forever.

maybe these would work
[Classic Thong by collegeconf](Classic Thong | CafePress)

Oh no, are we going to get into thongs now? I hope OP doesn’t come back to this thread.

I think there is some confusion about terminology. Chinos are just light to medium weight cotton twill pants, while khaki originally referred to a color( some sources also say khaki implies a thicker, heavier fabric). The two words can be used interchangeably. I agree with posters who have said what we are really debating is fit. At any rate, the Obey pants call themselves chinos. :D

I think we’re having a soda/coke/pop conundrum.

Hilarious GMTplus7

In less than 24 hours the CC thong was mentioned in 3 threads: this one, the Costco and the prestigiosity thread.

Good morning, everyone. Can we change the topic? Isn’t it great that the OP had such a fun admitted student night?

We have moved to thongs now NP. :D

I like the closer cut look on the young guys. Even their dress suits are"skinny" or tighter fitting than they were 4 years ago.

I think the look is here to stay for awhile and will become the norm for the younger guys. It seems to be on the heals of accepting the plain front pants as normal vs the pleated look.

If you open any Sunday clothing add…normal stores…you will see the guys in much more form fitting clothes.

Joke of the day

Girl to boyfriend: “You can’t go dancing with me in those jeans.”
Guy: Why can’t we go dancing?"
Girl “There’s no Ball Room.”

now back to those thongs…

D recommends Commando brand. Yes, that is a brand.

Looking forward to a post about the proper thong to wear to an admitted student night!

A clarification, in case a real fashion reporter ventures this way:

Obeys are not the trend, nor a replacement for standard khakis/chinos/etc. Just a skate/surf brand sold around here, an edgier Quiksilver. Other than David Beckham, most people over 21 probably have not heard of Obey.

In the 30+ years I’ve lived in LA, khakis have never been a wardrobe staple the way they are on the east coast. Middle school students in particular don’t like to wear them, though we used to force them to go to recitals, etc. in darker-colored Gap-type chinos. But people don’t wear skinny jeans/pants instead. I’m sitting in a cafe now, and most of the men/boys I see are wearing sweats. Not a VV product in sight.

Now, back to thongs.

This thread is a hoot!

Sweats? eek

My kids like Hanky Panky. D2 bought some on my credit card one time, I thought it was identity theft at first.
