What to write in common application writing short answer section

Hey everyone,

For the section on the common application where you have to “elaborate on one of your activities”, I’ve decided to talk about my gap year work, which gives me two options.

A) I’m interning two days a week at the constituency office of my local Member of Parliament (MP), equivalent of a Congressman/woman in the US. I do quite a bit of writing: articles for magazines; letters to constituents and newspapers; campaign literature; etc. I also go out canvassing in the constituency.

B) Also for two days a week, I volunteer at my old school, as a classroom assistant, helping to teach younger pupils. I do maths and history lessons. Next term, I’ll get the chance to teach some lessons (i.e. stand at the front and teach).

Which of these activites would look better in that section?

Thanks :)

Well I think what your major is will help you decide.
For example, if you’re considering a government/political science, journalism, or international relations major you might want to pick A
If you considering education, any business or history major pick B

Personally I think no matter what major you want to persue, you should choice A… Sounds really interesting and I would want to hear about it. Choice B sound more common than choice A

Hope that helps =)

I think B sounds more common as well. But I do want to major around business??

also is it good to talk about political views in essays? e.g. saying that I hold right-wing political views?
