I don’t understand the question…
I apologize I should have been more clear. I was referring to Ivy League, Top 20 School, etc… If it helps the schools that I would like to attend include NYU, USC, and Columbia. Is the course-load and extracurriculars so far for my high school career (about to be a junior) down the right path for my dream schools?
Test scores? UW GPA? Intended major?
There isn’t enough information for anyone to chance you even roughly.
You are also missing physics. Top schools like Columbia, NYU, and USC are going to expect some sequence of bio, chem, and physics and frankly higher course rigor in general.
I don’t have my test scores yet due to the fact that I am just now going to be a junior.
UW GPA: 4.0
I’m interested in cinematography, psychology, and political science.
I am taking the highest rigor of classes at my school possible.
What about a PSAT score? Why are you taking Chem again instead of physics?
It’s early yet for you. Test scores are a big part of the equation. Did you take the PSAT?
Right-now, it does not look like your curriculum is the highest rigor. No one takes Calculus at your school? What about the Holy Trinity of Sciences? Unless a student has some fabulously desired hook, top schools want to see high school kids taking top level academics in every area of study even if they are not planning to go into that area. Personal Finance, Sociology, Psychology are not considered part of the foundation courses for high school and are useful as extras once a student has taken the rock hard sciences and maths.
I got a 1110 on my PSAT. I don’t feel I performed the best I could have. Calculus is only offered as a regular class, same as physics. Now that I know I should definitely take those classes, I’ll look into taking them at the community college. If it helps or gives you a better idea, I go to a public high school in North Carolina that is not very highly ranked. There isn’t a wide range of AP courses. A foreign language isn’t even required to graduate, if that gives you an idea. Thank you for the help!
Your jr year courses are solid, but as others have said, the sr year looks a little questionable, you have only 2 classes in hs and 5 at a c/c, that could raise a flag. Schools you’ve mentioned will probably look for calculus even for non-stem majors, so even it’s non-AP, you should take that, along with physics. Once you get your scores, you’ll have a better idea of the types of schools you can apply/get admitted to. Since you’re in NC, probably start there for safeties (not UNC but a public that’s affordable). Then see if the USCs, NYUs, Columbias of the world make sense, especially from a cost perspective. Good Luck!
