In general, what UC’s can you get into with a 3.5, social science major?

It’s possible to get in to UCLA and UC Berkeley with that GPA, but you’ll more than likely need some help in the form of TAP for either of those schools. All of the other UCs aren’t difficult to gain admission to with that GPA for social science majors.

any thoughts for computer science of UCSD with 3.5 GPA and only missing two pre-req of discrete math and data structure?!

^^UCSD accepts as a school so you probably have a good chance, plus CS won’t be impacted until the next transfer application cycle.

@bolandgoo, bolandgoo: I don’t think discrete mathematics is a required prereq

I’ll have a 3.4 or 3.57 by the end of this Fall depending on my final grades. I’m also doing Computer Science, and UCSD is one of my top choices.

@CSB111: yeah I know it’s not impacted but it doesn’t mean they would accept anyone right?! lol
@bhav007: yeah I remember you from other topics haha earlier this semester, I got 2 As and one B in physics this fall…my percentage in physics is 89.2!! Mother***** did not give me A…I’m going to live on campus for a few days to catch him and get my A…if that happens, the GPA will be boosted to 3.58!
discrete math is not required that’s right, but it’s on assist, so…

3.5 is like a borderline for UCSD but UCSD tends to put a lot of applicants on the waitlist. The reason is that most of the students who get in to UCSD also get accepted UCLA and UCB and they tend to go with those two probably because of the higher prestige. UCSD do this as a back up plan. For any reason If you got waitlisted, go for it and write the damn essay(not sure how long but I heard it is very short) better make it look good too. I know a lot of people who got into UCSD out of the waitlist. Also If you don’t want to go there please deny the waitlist option so someone else get the chance.

I chose UCSD over UCLA(didn’t get into UCB) and have no regrets great school in academics and beautiful campus. I think we ranked high for a lot of majors than UCLA but UCLA has more reputation. Hope you will find this helpfull

Hi, thanks for the info about UCSD
My GPA is actually raised to 3.58, I could get A from my physics teacher finally!! Now I have a better chance!
UCLA is not that good for my major as far as I know…I live in LA, and talked to many teachers…they told me UCB>UCSD>UCLA for Computer Science…
I’m good with writing essays lol, so I guess even if I get wait listed I will have a good chance…we’ll see…
Did u get wait listed as well?

Nice bolandgoo; unfortunately, I didn’t get an A in chemistry. I have like an 88% or something for overall class grade. So, now my gpa by end of Fall will be 3.43 and my TAG for UCSD is going to get rejected

ah sorry man, the grading system in community colleges really suck!! there’s a lot of difference between someone who gets 88 and someone who gets 80! yet they both get 3 points(B) for GPA! and for a 5 unit course, it really affects the overall GPA! I wish it was plus-minus!!
Is it the same thing in UCs?!

Okay, I cannot stop freaking out about wether or not I will be admitted to UCSB, UCSC, SDSU
Profile:
GPA: 3.6, but a steady incline, I got a 3.85 this semester
MAJOR: English
GE: UCS–done SDSU–will be done by spring
MAJOR PRE-REQS: I will be missing 2 by spring
CREDITS: 60 by spring. (I just read you need 70 to transfer to a UC, is this true?)
ECS: Kentucky Kernel (school news paper), Delta Gamma, National Honors Society<-- although they do not know that, just got nominated this semester. Might write them a later, although I hear they don’t look at them. And about 70ish hours of community service.

Also, I am OOS and currently attend University of Kentucky.

Please, someone help a girl out.

Nikkixx I know you’re freaking out but calm down you can’t just copy and paste the same thing in a bunch of different pages, especially when it’s grammatically incorrect and especially for an English major.

You have a good shot at the 2 UC’s you listed even considering you are OOS, because they want the extra money you have to pay because you are OOS.

Keep calm and stop posting the same thing!!!
