I attend a prep school in NJ. The school has had 100% college acceptance rates for the past twenty years or something, to give some perspective. I moved from Sydney the summer before freshman year. Freshman year was a huge headache, with me getting low As in most classes and 2 Bs… Throughout two (public) schools. I then switched to my current school, and have pretty consistent low As and a possible 89 in history.

In Year 10 I played varsity basketball and raised about $5000 for Typhoon Haiyan relief through a project that I ran with one other person. Year 11 I’m planning on playing varsity soccer, basketball and golf, and the same for senior year.

This year I took art/music (1 semester each, graduation requirement), Spanish 1 honours, Geometry, US History 1, English, and chem. Next year I’m looking at Spanish 2 H, AP US or maybe US 2 H, Pre Calc H, AP Bio, AP English Language, and Women Writers.

I’ll be taking a summer course to bump my math higher (currently in Geometry, will be taking Algebra 2, pre calc as a junior). Assuming I keep up this average streak, taking two/three APs next year and two/three senior year (everything else honours), what kind of colleges am I looking at? I have a double legacy for Notre Dame, so I should be in there, but I’m not sure of where else is in my range. Obviously no Ivy leagues, but I don’t want to shoot too low either.

I agree, despite your legacy you are not a shoe-in for ND. To give you any recommendations, we would need to know things like…What are your standardized test scores? What can your family spend on college? What type of school do you like (size, location etc.)? What do you want to study?

I agree that a double legacy at ND (or any other school) doesn’t necessarily equal an acceptance. The valedictorian of our high school in 2012 was rejected by ND, from which both of her parents graduated.

Well, we also happen to know quite a few people involved in the Notre Dame admissions process and they more or less told me that if I maintained my grades I’d be accepted. My practice PSAT (counted for nothing) was 178, but that’s only due to a complete failure in the maths section- I had top 99% and 96% in the English sections, and I’m getting a very well regarded tutor to help me out.

Actually double legacy at ND is pretty good chance of getting in . No matter what they tell you, ND drops the bar pretty low for legacy and athletes. Stanford too. All the b.s. about the team averages….and that stuff is bunk. eg. the sports team averages are bolstered by 4.0+ teammates that will never, ever play, while the 2.9gpa participants are on the field. Same w/legacy….bar lowered.

How much of a factor is money? That is, are your parents able to pay full freight anywhere you wish to go, or will scholarships and/or loans need to be figured into process?
