Ok well Im a freshman at dominican college of blauvelt and I really dont like this school so I want to transfer. So which decent(better than dominican) schools in NJ or NY accepts a 2.8 gpa? I realy dont know what to look for plz help

Why don’t you just transfer home to your local community college, spend a couple years there getting your GPA up into transfer range, and then transfer to a different 4-year institution?

wait its possible to transfer to a communirty college even if you already attend a regular college? But wouldnt that waste more years? Cuz ill be like 28 when i finish college…

St. John’s University

Yes, it’s possible to transfer to a community college if you’re in a 4 year school now. Plenty people do it for all kinds of reasons, GPA concerns among them. And yes, it might mean it’ll take longer for you to get your bachelors… though of course, you could also catch up later by taking summer classes and extra courses during the regular year.

TTD12-St johns sounds good but the tuition is waaayyy expensive for me…thanks for the help though

Katliamom-So if I take alot of summer and other extra courses during the yr, how long do you think it will take until I graduate the 4 yr school?

anyone else know any good colleges in ny/nj to transfer? and tuition less than 20000$ plz

If you visit the website of your home-town community college tonight, you can find out how to apply. If it is a typical community college that is open admission, you will be admitted pretty much immediately, and you will be able to register for summer classes.

It is likely that at least some of your current coursework will transfer to the CC, so with summer classes and fall and spring classes you could easily have your Associates Degree by next spring. The secret to success at the CC is to work closely with your department advisor and with the Transfer Advisor to plan your courses so that you can transfer into the 4-year college/university that you’d like to attend. Most CCs have articulation or guaranteed transfer arrangements with public universities in their state, and some have them with private 4-year institutions as well.

Since you aren’t doing particularly well in your classes right now, you should think a bit about what you want to major in, and how to best organize your life so that you can be more committed to your studies. You will need at least a 3.0 average (and yes, your classes at this first college will be considered, not just your classes at the CC) to transfer to most 4-year institutions.

I agree that it is not uncommmon to go to four year college the first year, community college the second year, and then a different four year college the next two years. That’s what I would recommend.

Gennessee Community College in Batavia NY and Herkimer Community College in Herkimer NY and Onandoga Community College in Syracuse have dorms. Go to CC for a year or two, bring up your GPA, and then transfer to a place that is a better fit for you to finish.

anyone else know any good colleges in ny/nj to transfer? and tuition less than 20000$ plz

What is your home state? To find a college with that cost, you’d need to go to an instate public?

so there is pretty much no chance for me transferring to a differnt 4 yr school without going to a community college? I would prefer not to but if thats my only choice…

and I live in new jersey and I commute to my college now everyday

btw…how come there are so many moms!??

do you think ramapo college or rowan university will be a good college to transfer? both of the deadline dates for fall semster transfer already passed so if Im going to those schools, it would be by next spring semester. But by looking at the transfer requirements, it says you need a 2.0 or 2.5 out of 4.0 gpa. Now that sounds kinda easy… or am i reading something wrong?

How many credits are needed to transfer without needing to send HS transcripts and SAT scores?

24 credits and D or above is accepted they say for rowan and for ramaapo it is 45 credits so i definitely need to transfer for next spring cuz I only have 30 credits for this whole yr. It also says for ramapo: Have a 2.0 cumulative grade point average as well as a 2.0 grade point average in the major

Do you think I can get in by next spring?? And btw my sat wasnt that good with 460critical reading, 560math, 520writing.

Tt looks like you would have to apply as a transfer at Rowan, but you might be able to apply as a freshman at Ramapo, because you will have a total of about 30 semester credits by the end of this year. Re-read the information for Ramapo. If it is on the quarter system 45 quarter credits = approx. 30 semester credits. In other words, one full-time year of college credits.

Check the application dates for transfers at both places. If you just missed the application date, pick up the phone and call them. They might still be accepting applications.
