I am a 24 year old student. I have an Associate’s degree in Computer Information Systems (not a transfer degree). However, I want to get a bachelor’s in finance. The problem is that my local college does not offer a transfer degree in finance, only in business administration.
One of the closest Universities to me is San Diego State University. This University only offers a Business Administration program with several emphasis that the student can choose from. I could try and apply to Business Administration with emphasis in Finance, but I have read, a lot, about people mentioning that getting a degree in this field is “useless,” and that it is simply better to focus in getting a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, etc. Whether or not this is “true,” I am interested in getting a degree in finance, but my local college, as previously mentioned, only offers a transfer degree in business administration.
What could I do in this situation? Should I try and persuade a Business Administration degree at SDSU? What if they reject me? What are my other choices? Where do I look at the different Universities I can apply to? I know I sound as a total novice, but I really lack knowledge about all this; I have already made an appointment with a counselor to talk about this, but I need, please, your help in advance.
This is my local college, it is located in Southern California (county’s name is Imperial Valley):
