i feel like i’m not getting the college experience i always wanted. i wanted to study abroad, join clubs, and major in something i loved. but i’m doing none of them. i want to start my college life all over again. = =

Why aren’t you majoring in something you love? What year are you in? There’s probably still plenty of time to change things.

edit: And why don’t you… join clubs? It’s really easy to do. Study abroad might be trickier, but still possible.

i’m a junior. i don’t know why i’m not majoring in something i love. i wish my brain was more on the practical side so i can major in something more practical and feel more secure about finding a job after i graduate. i tried joining clubs, but the website never works, nobody ever replies. i also feel limited by money. i always wanted to go out of state, but i ended up going to a school 30 min. from my house. i can’t dorm b/c i can’t afford it, and i don’t really have the money to study abroad. don’t really want to end up graduating with a debt either. =/

Physically go to the club and join. “The website wouldn’t work” is not a valid excuse, when you could just get up off the couch and a lot of clubs would be more than happy to have you. What is it you want to major in? What is it you ARE majoring in?

i don’t know what i want to major in. but i don’t feel quite secure or even happy about majoring in English.

Why did you pick english then? You’ve still got time to switch majors, especialyl if you act now, and either only have to take one more year or even graduate on time. If you don’t know what you want nobody else can help you though. You’ve got to figure this one out on your own, and from the sound of things you probably haven’t done that a whole lot.

I think it’s definitely possible to do almost all of those things if you’re proactive about it.

Social Sciences and Humanities majors (for the most part) all struggle at some point with the same fears: is my major going to lead to a job that will allow me to be financial secure? Should I switch to a more lucrative major? And it’s up to each individual to answer that question. If it’s such a big concern that it’s ruining your college experience, than switch. Speak with your adviser, set up an appointment at the career center, and try to figure out what it is that you want and what’s important to you. Prioritize from there.

Many schools offer scholarships for students who want to study abroad to make it more of a financial possibility. Look to see if such a program exists at your school. If you stayed in state, you’re already saving a ton of money, so perhaps pending a semester abroad won’t be as big of a financial set back as you think. And on that note, if you’re graduating almost debt-free, why are you so worried about your future career anyway?

With regards to the clubs, my school keeps the website for them poorly maintained too. Go to the clubs and activities fair on campus this fall and get the information in person. Ask around and try to find out by word of mouth. See if the clubs you want to join have a corresponding group on facebook - many of them do.
