Does anyone has the essay prompt from Oct.2010 till now.
Thanks a ton, I really need this! :)

Don’t bother preparing for the essay. It has little to no effect on admissions even at the few schools who do consider it. It’s also a horrible indicator of writing abilities.

^ Even still, the Essay score is a large part of one’s overall SAT Writing score and thus, a relatively large part of one’s overall SAT score. Not preparing for it all would be unwise.

Is the idealistic approach better than the pragmatic approach (something like that)?

Really?

It’s actually a minimal part of the overall writing score. An 8 on the essay with nothing wrong on the multiple choice is a 770W. In terms of admissions, the difference between an 800W and a 770W is negligible, as is the writing score itself (as many schools still don’t even consider it - they’re just collecting data to determine whether it’s a valid indicator of writing abilities, which it isn’t).

Preparation for the essay is unlikely to improve your essay score by any significant amount and is thus not worth the time, as the MC is far more important than the essay and as the writing section is relatively unimportant.

The difference between an 8 and a 12 essay is negligible. Unless you’re below an 8 (in which case your writing seriously needs work for more reasons than the SAT), there’s absolutely no point in preparing for the essay. Even a 7 isn’t all that bad.

^ Sorry, there’s no point in fighting the system. If you didn’t do very well on your SAT Essay portion, you shouldn’t try to convince others to do the same.

@ACTTester is right. Though it’s not a very good indicator of your writing ability, the SAT Essay is important to one’s overall score, especially if they are like most people on CC and want to get 2200+.

I was going to reply to this, but fisawalab touched on everything.
Your essay score is absolutely vital, especially if you’re going for a 2350+.
I never stated that the Essay portion was more important than the MC portion, just that the Essay deserves its preparation time like any other part of the SAT. Also, see the comments/testimonials here for examples of many people who improved their Essay scores significantly through practice and the right approach: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/645763-how-write-12-essay-just-10-days.html.

I don’t want to completely hijack this thread though, so to the OP, here’s a thread with a good number of the Essay prompts administered since March 05: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/764514-sat-essay-prompt-archetypes.html (though it doesn’t have the most recent ones).
