What was your experience in community college? (California, Computer Science Major)

I decided to go to community college because of financial issues but I don’t know much about it so I want to know what it was like going to community college in California for Computer Science majors (or similar majors) was like.

I have a few questions…

  1. What community college did you go to and do you recommend it?
  2. How would you compare the classes you took in community college to those in high school?
  3. Were you a “good” high school student?
  4. How did you know what classes to take in community college?
  5. What was your GPA in community college?
  6. How long did it take you to transfer?
  7. What school did you end up transferring to?
  1. I go to Southwestern. I love my school, but for CS I wouldn't recommend it because CIS 115 (C++) is only offered online, and has been like this for the past few years. The math and physics professors are really great though.
  2. College > High School. My HS didn't care about CS stuff at all. They offered 0 computer classes. College is great because the teachers actually care and try to apply the class material to what you want to do with your life.
  3. Not really, I just didn't care in HS. I graduated with a 3.2 weighted gpa.
  4. assist.org and meet with a counselor. But it also depends on where you want to go. Every university has their own requirements.
  5. Will eventually transfer with a 3.88 gpa (over 120 units) and an honors program completion (36/15 units completed)
  6. 4 years because I took BS classes my first year, then on top of that was in the hospital for a semester.
  7. Haven't really applied yet. I want to go to Barnard, UCB, or GWU though.
