What was your grades in high school and what activities were you guys involve in?

Also what were your SAT/ACT scores and GPA . I want to go to UCLA or USC. I want to know what the college admissioners like and expect from USC students. Thanks : D

To have a good shot you will need close to straight A’s, 2000’s and 30’s on SAT and ACT, and be involved in numerous activities. Here are the collegeboards stats: [Academic Tracker - Meet College Admission Requirements - High School Class Selection](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board)

Do an interview! It’s painless and I think it really helped me.

2.07 high school GPA, no SAT/ACT and no activities.

transferred student :D

I’m an international student, so no GPA, but:

A-level: AAA
AS: BB
GCSE: AAA*AAAAAAB

SAT: 2170 (CR 720, Math 710, Writing 740)
SATII: Math2 710, French 680, Literature 730

Also got into NYU and UCSB, and got wailtlisted at McGill.

Based on my experience with the USC admissions process, I would say they take an extremely holistic approach to defining their freshman class. I think they really try to look at the student as a whole, not just at their grades or test scores. Go back and look at the 2010 Admissions Decisions thread. There are plenty of people with good GPA’s and test scores who did not get admitted, and plenty of people with poorer GPA’s and test scores who did. There really isn’t a threshold where if you get a certain GPA and certain score on your SAT you are guaranteed admission.

Here is the 2009 freshman class profile just to give you a general idea of the academic makeup of the class.

http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/0910/FreshmanProfile2009.pdf</a></p>

I really would advise though not to take that to heart. Here’s my two cents on USC admissions. I think USC looks for students who were not only very driven and accomplished in high school, but show promise for taking that drive and motivation with them to USC where they will continue to accomplish as a part of the Trojan family. That’s probably a bit more broad than you were hoping for, but I really think it’s true.

Specifics wise, I would advise a few things in the USC admissions process. One, I would really try to have a diverse range of experiences and accomplishments before you finish high school. USC really encourages interdisciplinary study, and I think having well rounded students is even more important to them than it is for other universities. So maybe in your senior year you could step outside your comfort zone a bit and pick up something you haven’t done before (i.e. a new sport, instrument, join the debate team, etc.)?

Also, USC loves to be loved. I’ve read that on here before and it is 100% true! I would definitely develop a nice relationship with your admissions counselor and any other USC faculty you come into contact with. Make it clear you really, really want to go there. USC is very proud of their school spirit and the Trojan network, and they want students who will continue on that tradition.

Hope this helps somewhat. Best of luck to you in the months to come.

Thank You Guys for the good advice, I asked the same question on UCLA and they were very rude (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-los-angeles/950089-what-your-grades-high-school-what-activities-were-you-guys-involve.html</a>) I need to step my game up alittle bit. This year (Junior ) I am taking AP English and Chemsity . I am going to take my ACT and SAT later this year.

I had mostly As, a few Bs, and two Cs. :frowning: For my SATs, I tested once, and received a 2110, and I did the same for ACTs with a 33. I did the full IB diploma and took AP Gov and BC Calc my sophomore and junior years, as well as the APUSH exam.

Accepted at USC, St. Olaf, and SUNY Stony Brook
Waitlisted at Carleton
Rejected from UVA (instate), NYU Tisch, Columbia, Barnard, Northwestern, and Pomona. Those were probably because of the two Cs, unfortunately, and I fought tooth and nail to get those grades to even be Cs.

I did a buttload of extracurriculars, and I really highlighted my theatre involvement for my application (I applied to the BA theatre).

I kept in contact with my overall admissions counselor and kept in pretty close contact with one of the people in the theatre admissions office. I had a great interview with the theatre admissions officer as well, and I think that only helped me. I feel like USC was definitely the school I showed the most interest in, and I’m sure that only helped me.

Really? I would NEVER expect that from the classy Bruins.

SAT: 750 M 720 CR 590 W 2040 overall
GPA: 4.166 W 3.9 UW
EC: Not much, 2 years of baseball, 1 year of keyclub and NHS. And some community service.
Major: Computer Engineering and Computer Science

Keep in mind when looking at a school’s average stats that people are equally below that line as those that are above. If USC’s avg SAT score is 2020, remember people get 2200’s and 1800’s (and there should be approx. equal numbers of both). If you couldn’t get in without a 2020, the average would be a lot higher.

Oh and I got into all the UCs (didn’t apply to Berkely) and USC. I pretty much chose USC because of the Trojan Family. I’ve never heard of the Bruin Family.

If my daughter (who got into USC) had been accepted to UCLA she would have attended in a heartbeat. Her dad got his MBA at Anderson School og Business back in the late
'70s. But aside from that, something about the campus just felt good when we visited last August. She was fine with USC, as well. But, when we got to UCLA, something just clicked. Could be the surrounding area, too. Even though her 5 year Bachelors to Masters program is at USC, she would have majored in Psychology at UCLA and maybe apply for the grad program at SC. Or go back East to Boston. But, she chose to attend Cal Poly SLO for financial reasons. More affordable.

I’m sure both USC and UCLA are fine schools. I don’t always feel it needs to be the Trojan family or ANY family. It’s what you put into it and take away from it. In my daughter’s case, I don’t necessarily feel the “Trojan network” would boost her future career as an occupational therapist. I don’t even think she would have stayed down in Southern CA, anyway. If anything, UCLA is more well known. But again, I doubt it would make or break her opportunities. My husband is a Stanford graduate (undergrad. Did that help him find a teaching job 30+ years ago? Nah.

maybe I’m being overly optimistic, but I feel like in some fields, being a USC grad is really helpful. Mostly, I feel like the entertainment field is pretty welcoming of USC grads. As an actor/potential crew member, I can only hope that the connections I make through the cinema school and the opportunities afforded to me by being a USC student will help me find work in this crazy world. In this industry, it really is all about who you know, and I think USC will help me out on that front.

That being said, I don’t expect to be cast by George Lucas just because I am a USC student/grad, but I am hoping to be cast in student films at USC and make a good enough impression on those directors that they will want to cast me again in later projects.

For me, the Trojan family really was an attractive part of the USC package, so to speak. But that’s just personally.
