If my daughter (who got into USC) had been accepted to UCLA she would have attended in a heartbeat. Her dad got his MBA at Anderson School og Business back in the late
'70s. But aside from that, something about the campus just felt good when we visited last August. She was fine with USC, as well. But, when we got to UCLA, something just clicked. Could be the surrounding area, too. Even though her 5 year Bachelors to Masters program is at USC, she would have majored in Psychology at UCLA and maybe apply for the grad program at SC. Or go back East to Boston. But, she chose to attend Cal Poly SLO for financial reasons. More affordable.

I’m sure both USC and UCLA are fine schools. I don’t always feel it needs to be the Trojan family or ANY family. It’s what you put into it and take away from it. In my daughter’s case, I don’t necessarily feel the “Trojan network” would boost her future career as an occupational therapist. I don’t even think she would have stayed down in Southern CA, anyway. If anything, UCLA is more well known. But again, I doubt it would make or break her opportunities. My husband is a Stanford graduate (undergrad. Did that help him find a teaching job 30+ years ago? Nah.

I pretty much chose USC because of the Trojan Family. I’ve never heard of the Bruin Family. **
