Saks. It’s the only online site I buy from regurily and that’s only 2-3 times a year and only relatively inexpensive things - like tees or things which don’t need to be tried on - like bags. I prefer going to stores and trying before buying. I’ve only ordered from Amazon once and was years ago. I don’t get why people buy household stuff online when you can just go to any big box store and get the same thing.
…when you can just go to any big box store and get the same thing."
LOL. Lugging 42 lb bags of cat litter gets old quickly. I let our local UPS driver exercise his muscle by delivering the stuff directly onto my porch. Plus, big box stores do not sell Fussie Cat. And my cats become quite fussy if they get substitute cat foods.
I do buy a lot of stuff from Saks online during their sales because there are no Saks stores in my state.
I will do just about anything to avoid the big box stores. Of course, it is a luxury to be able to arrange life in that way.
“I don’t get why people buy household stuff online when you can just go to any big box store and get the same thing.”
I am just the opposite. I will do almost anything to avoid going into a big box store. Amazon Prime baby!
I still don’t get it but I’m sure it’s just me. I went to lowes yesterday - H needed lime for lawn and I needed some cleaning supplies. It wasn’t a horrible experience or especially burdensome. Plus, Lowes is in my town and pay taxes to my town. I like that there are businesses that pay taxes in my town, otherwise my property taxes would be even worse than they are. I also try to shop in mom & pop stores in town for same reason.
Also, after reading about Amazon, I will never give them my business.
I don’t order anything from Amazon but books and mainly for my kindle, since I try to support a local independent bookstore.
I belong to Costco, because I think I want to support them. But I avoid shopping there because it is just overwhelming and a very unpleasant experience for me. Some friends love going there. I buy paper products at the local co-op and pay more. However, there are just two of us, so it isn’t a huge difference.
Lowe’s and Home Depot are impossible to avoid, since I’m involved in a never-ending renovation project. Everyone there knows my name, just like on Cheers.
Open Table. For my wife, it’s Boden.
I pay my local sales tax on top of the state sales tax no matter what business I shop. My town makes 100x more $$$ off non-retail business tax than off the measly local add-on sales tax.
Just saying… We might as well all boycott Saks because it discriminates against transgender people. Unlike the questionable NYT article about Amazon (which sounded like hearsay and sour grapes from competition), there was an actual lawsuit filed against Saks.
Boden is lovely.
I try not to look too often. I have enough other clothing sites damaging to my wallet.
Open Table! How fun a place to frequent!
Lol! Visited Open Table quite often a couple of weeks ago when I traveled to my race.
Chicos
Number of orders: Amazon
Money spent: Bulk Reef Supply

Another vote for Amazon…
The convenience of having it tomorrow and never having to leave the house and not having to search several stores or aisles…just too easy!
I don’t think I spend on things I don’t need most of the time (sometimes those suggestions catch my eye), but I might save money out of laziness if I decided going to the store wasn’t worth it.
DecorSteals.com. They offer one “steal” per day and send out an e-mail when it is available. When I first subscribed I found quite a few things that I “needed” lol. Now that I have been getting emails for a while, I have noticed they repeat offers frequently so it’s not so much a problem. I found them when I was googling for industrial type wall lamps and found the ones I wanted for 1/3 the price of anywhere else.
BodenUSA.com. We are expecting our first grandchild in February (finding out if it’s a girl or boy today) and I love the baby clothes on this site. I have contained myself pretty well so far but once we know the gender, it is going to be hard. They have sales frequently so I will be OK til the next sale.
Amazon- I buy things here but they are usually things that I am shopping for specifically, not so much just spur of the moment stuff.
But businesses in my town also pay property taxes and property taxes are how we fund our school district. Sales taxes are county taxes and go to the county to pay for county services. If there were no businesses in my town my property taxes would be astronomical.
Feel free to boycott Saks if what the do upsets you. There are several corporations I choose not to do business with.
I understand that sales taxes are a huge benefit for any community, but I hate to shop so much. We live next to one of the biggest outlet malls in Calif. and I avoid it like the plague. I do most of my gift shopping on-line as I usually know exactly what I want and love the convenience of Amazon Prime. I absolutely hate going into Target or Costco when I can avoid it and I just don’t have a lot of free time to shop. On-line is much more convenient. I do try to support the smaller independent stores in town.
Lately it’s been PotterBarn and Lucky Brand( for my kids).
But I use Priceline, Booking, Expedia, most airlines.
I used to be a total Amazon junkie. But as more and more of their items are fulfilled by resellers and not by Amazon I find myself backing away. Even through you get the two day free ship through Prime the resellers may add on extra time to fulfill your order. So now it shows up in four days instead of two. I have also had incorrect items shipped a few times.
As for shopping locally I have to remember that Target doesn’t sell the laundry shop, skin lotion, or dental floss I like. Then if I try Walmart they don’t carry the toothpaste or whatever. I can’t count the number of times these stores are also out of stock on items. It drives me mad.
Re post 21–I ordered fire logs from Amazon just so I didn’t have to lug them home. When I wanted to re-order it was discontinued. Figured I wore the poor delivery guy out!
