What were the books on your AP Euro summer reading list? Did you like them?

I’m interested in reading some for fun.

The Prince by Machiavelli.

Fun? No.

bump ten char

A World Lit Only by Fire by William Manchester. I hated it.

none bumpde

Haven’t read it yet, since we just got the assignment today, but we have to read I Wish I’d Been There: Book Two by Hollinshead and Rabb.

I got my list a week ago. Portrait Of An Age & A World Lit Only by Fire. Ordered 'em yesterday so I expect to get 'em sometime soon :3

We read 1984 and The Republic. Liked 1984, but The Republic was a slog.

Pre-class reading: The Prince, by Machiavelli; Nicholas and Alexandra, by Robert K. Massie; and the biography of our choice. I read one on Vermeer, but I don’t remember the title.

I thought the Prince was boring, but Nicholas and Alexandra was a fascinating (although long-winded) account of Tsar Nicholas II and his wife (the last Tsar of Russia). That’s definitely a worthwhile read if you have time. It reads like a TV drama. :)

I have to read Voltair’s Cantide (?). Not looking forward to it, though, because I’ve heard terrible things.

Voltaire’s Candide is pretty hilarious, actually.

Another Prince here, I did not like it too much…
