What will happen if my school discovers this?

Hello,

I wasn’t sure where to post this, so sorry if its in the wrong spot.

First, let me be totally honest. My issue is that I never finished high school. For personal reasons, I stopped traditional education part way through the 9th grade, and began working full-time (whenever I could… usually 9 months out of 12, and part-time work the rest of the year.). Even though I didn’t complete my pre-college schooling, I applied to a university with a false high school transcript and was accepted… I didn’t try to exaggerate my gpa, just made it rather average. While I did this, my admission to the university I currently attend was based more on my admissions essays and SAT score (1750).
Right now my university gpa is 3.4, and I am still working part-time (it IS a private lib arts uni after all…).
I am just worried what will happen if my university finds out… what, in your opinion (or maybe this is just general knowledge?), what will the repercussions be for me if my University discovers that I never finished high school?

Just so you know, I am 22 years old and am in my second semester of sophomore year.

Wow! At what school did you get away with that?

They could expel you. And they probably would.

If they discovered this fraud after you graduated, they could revoke your degree. But I don’t think they would unless you did something scandalous.

To Sikorsky,

Do you think there would be any sort of review process first?
I try to be a good student, I volunteer (a few hours every week usually), and I work at the same time. I know it wasn’t the best thing to do, and it’s not like I’m proud of it… but I feel like I really need to get my degree so I can get a better job in the future. At 14 I was basically making the choice of either working or going to school. I tried to do both for awhile, but either my grades were poor, or my work performance was. I chose to work.
Also, its not like I spent my time not doing any school either. I feel I should have mentioned this in my first post, but before applying to college I began taking CLEP. Through them I was able to get 15 credit hours… which might not seem like much, but back then was a pretty huge deal to me.
Neither did I party… still don’t. Just not my thing I guess ^^

(Whew… that was a long post, sorry about that)

they would definitely, without a second thought, expel you. but i agree that they probably won’t find out, unless you do something stupid.

they could also charge you with something criminal… because i think that is criminal, what you did…

but what happens when you apply for jobs? things could keep escalating.

I agree that you would probably be expelled or have your degree rescinded after you graduate, but that is only if the school was to ever find out that you did this. I doubt that there would be much of a review process, as there is nothing to review. You knowingly falsified an application, and I bet that somewhere in the past you signed your name attesting to the truthfulness of your application. I certainly hope that for your sake none of your friends or acquaintances knows about this situation- it only takes one soured friendship or relationship for someone to have a reason for revenge.

What would your school do if they found out you committed fraud?

Probably not be too pleased with you. At all.
