So as a freshman right now, I was caught plagiarizing an assignment from a classmate since I didn’t have enough time with my other projects. Can anyone inform me if colleges or universities look at your freshman year a lot? Or do they look at what you did wrong?
That is a good question to take to your own guidance counselor.
And while you are in there, ask about screening for Executive Function issues. You need assistance in learning how to best organize your time so you can complete all of your projects.
@happymomof1 He screwed up and will perhaps have to suffer some consequences. If that means not getting into HPYS and forced to go to state uni. I dont know. Perhaps. Good lesson at that age. It can build character. But cognitive screening for copying his buddies homework?
OP. You will have to answer for this perhaps. But you’re a freshman. Get your act together and be excellent in your remaining three years. It will be ok , if you knock it off and get your homework done.
@privatebanker - The cognitive screening is to find out why he is so disorganized that he found himself in the situation where he couldn’t think to do anything but copy the homework. If he had better organizational skills, he would have used his time better and not ended up in that situation to begin with. And yes, the disorganization might simply be developmentally normal, but if it isn’t and there is an executive function issue, then that should be dealt with yesterday.
@happymomof1 thanks! Makes sense. It could also be playing videos and shooting hoops instead of hitting the books. But I see your point.
You’re a freshman and you’re thinking ahead to college admissions–this is good. Have you learned a lesson from what you did and from what happened to you? My advice is to take the lesson to heart, do your best in school, but more importantly, do your best to live an exemplary life. If you do this over the next two years, I think this record will overshadow the freshman year mistakes.
