What won't you skimp on?

Trying to distract myself while awaiting decisions for guitarist’s sister…

Clipping the Sunday morning coupons because I am notoriously frugal (my word) or cheap (my family’s), I got to thinking there are some things even I will not skimp on:

– Toilet paper (which is what prompted this thread; I will not clip any coupon for anything other than Charmin). And I will buy Charmin not on sale and without a coupon if we need toilet paper. I couldn’t believe it when I saw a show about this obsessive coupon clipping group that cleared the shelves of drugstore brand TP every Sunday morning - never!

– Diet Coke (my coffee); I am singlehandedly responsible for Diet Coke surging to the #2 spot behind regular Coke and ahead of Pepsi as reported this week. No substitutes will suffice.

– For H, it’s Starbucks coffee.

I will suffer through subpar hotel rooms, inconvenient travel times and much more, but I won’t skimp on these two items. I’m sure I’ll think of more… let the distracting begin.

Green tea. Black tea. Biotene. A good haircut even if it’s less frequent.

I’m with you on the t.p., but can’t stand Charmin Ultra Soft. Also meats, fish, 100% juice, bathroom cleaner, dish soap, and laundry detergent.

Good hair color and a decent manicure. You get what you pay for with both.

Fast internet connection is a must for me. Also love my garage door opener and instant door opener/lock for my car. Good lighting as my eyes get dim.

Sheets - I only have one set at a time, but it’s the good (expensive) stuff. 400 thread count percale, the pillow cases ironed for that luxurious-hotel feel.

Next on the shopping list: really, really good towels. Gave some to in-laws as a gift and they’re amazed at the difference. Now waiting until I’m an empty nester to buy some for me.

The temperature of my house. I will skimp on lots of things - inexpensive cars, clothes, and vacations, but I want to be comfortable at home. If it’s cold - I crank up the heat and in the summer the AC is at full blast.

Shoes.
After a painful battle with plantar fasciitis, I vowed to never wear cheap shoes,flip-flops or shoes that don’t feel good on my feet ever again.
I am a tightwad bargain shopper in every other aspect of my life.

I second jsjs2 on temperature of my house.

I only buy Viva brand paper towel.

Food. Spend a lot on fish, organic fresh fruits and veggies. Consider it health insurance.
Good coffee beans.
Also would have a hard time cutting out my professional cut and color every month.

when I read this thread title , I automatically thought toilet paper !
and shampoo too , though I splurged on some costly stuff the last time I had a haircut and other than smelling really nice , don’t think it’s worth the extra money and won’t buy it again

I will not buy farmed fish.

Puffs, Heinz, ChapStick, Curel, Diet Pepsi, Wheat Thins

Any other product, generic and/or cheapest is fair game.

Sorry to be redundant: shoes, organic milk and produce, good coffee and winter coats (one for dress and one for warmth).

environmentally and humanely raised meat, non-farmed fish, organic milk and veggies, fair trade coffee, and a fast internet connection.

Good coffee, paper towels, comfortable shoes and skin care.

Yes, with you all on the fresh, wild-caught fish. D is a huge health nut, and this is non-negotiable.

Fresh fruit and vegies, tea, coffee and seasonings/rubs/oils. I will buy cheap toilet paper but spend more on paper towels. I am stingy with the A/C and the heat, but love ceiling fans.

Ditto the toilet paper. My parents buy the cheap stuff (Scott) and when I visit them, I buy my own toilet paper to stock the bathroom I use at their house. And milk from the dairy that delivers.
