I work for Electronic Arts in player modelling and stat editing. I also happen to make language courses for Duolingo (handful of teens to do it) and translated for the USDA. Would any of these be considered Tier A ECs?
A top EC contains three things. Leadership, leadership, and leadership. What you do is a lot less than how you do it.
Extracurriculars should be what you enjoy doing. They should not be done for the purpose of getting into college.
Whatever activities you do for fun, you will learn from them— you can’t know now what those lessons will be, but you will discover them when you look back on your experiences during senior year. Then, you will be able to discuss them in a way that reveals your interests and character and make you an interesting candidate.
If you are doing what you enjoy then that is great. Other than being a recruited athlete, I don’t know of any EC or job will get you into a college that you are not otherwise academically qualified to attend. Be sure to apply to a good mix of reach, match, and safety schools that appear affordable and that you wold be happy to attend.
