What would be my best fit?

I have been looking through college websites for what seems like forever, and I just can’t find anything that has the qualities I am looking for. I want a college that runs off of a 4-1-4 or trimester calendar so that I would have the opportunity to take about 4-6 weeks and do a short study abroad. I would also like a college with a pretty setting and where the student body doesn’t drink heavily. It would be great if there were activities such as an outdoors program, group fitness classes, and theater performances. I would also like a friendly, relaxed, and easygoing student body. I’m not one for the colleges where the students are appearance and fashion obsessed or have constant stress because of the intense and overwhelming workload. Also, I am really not fond of colleges that have grade deflation. Any ideas?

Colby and Middlebury?

Ahhh it seems like my clock is going backwards … it says 2:02 on my post but 2:01 on my computer clock …

I think that Middlebury is a little too snooty sounding for me, but I’ll definitely look into Colby.

What is everyone’s opinion on Whitman College?

You should get yourself on Colby’s mailing list if you haven’t already. They have this thing called insideColby, where it’s a compilation of photos and articles about students/alumni. It shows you that it really is a fun, outdoorsy, relaxed environment.

Another school to look at that might interest you with 4-1-4 is Oberlin.

Snooty sounding for you? What are you, five years old?

You should check out Grinnell in Iowa. The campus is very pretty with amazing facilities. They have 4 weeks off for winter break, so you could travel over that time. They don’t have a huge outdooring program (which the three Maine LACs have) but they do have a very physically active population, walk-on sports team, lots of intermurals and wonderful athletic facilities. The student body meets the description of what you are looking for: How intense and stressful it is probably depends more on you and the courses you take. People work hard but my son says he has a lot more free time than he did in high school, where face time in classes ate up 6 hours/day.
