first in family to go to university
Schools was alright. It had a magnet program where basically the 175 kids that were in it were considered a shoe in for 4 year universities. About 400 kidsin total went to a university with prob. 100 going to top ranked schools (UC’s and above). There are about 1300, yes 1300 in the graduating class. Sends a few grads to top schools
[1 to harvard, 2 to yale, 2 to stanford, 1 to mit, 1 to UPenn, 2 to U of Chicago, I think 1 to Columbia, 1 to Cornell ]

Interested in business and political science

I know HYPMS is out of the question, but would some of the lower ivies be realistic reaches? I dont really care where the school is, as long as it has a good reputation.

Cornell, Brown are realistic Ivy reaches.
For non-ivy’s you could look at northwestern, WashU, Johns Hopkins, etc.

Looking at your stats and interest, I would say Michigan would be a good fit. They have excellent business/political science departments, and your stats fit in there really well. I would say you have a shot (not excellent, not horrible) at lower Ivy’s only beacuse of your race/first gen college student, but I just recently read an article about how students who get into college for reasons other than transcripts, essays, and ec’s usually underperform compared to the rest of the univeristy, so I wouldn’t recommend going to them unless you have your eyes set on them for a specific reason, and lower ivy’s don’t have business programs (although they do have amazing econ programs).

If you can get 2000+ it would help you a ton. 2100 and you are very competitive at highly selective schools. Focus a lot on improving that score, SAT is a very learnable test, and practicing and reading books with tips can help a lot.

what selective schools in particular?
Oh, I can definitely perform well at a top school, its jsut that earlier in my hs career I went through alot of stuff, which I will explain in my essay. I think I did alot better this last time around, but the scores wont be here till november 20th. Assuming I get 2000-2100, where would I be able to get into?

That is a hard question, I think you are competative at nearly every school, low for HYPMS, but with an excellent essay, even those may be in reach. As long as you are able to get around 2100 SAT, the sky is the limit.

You live in Cal, so I am thinking Berkley and stanford might be worth a shot!

I think you can get in anywhere you want, as long as you put in the time on the essays and get good teacher/couselor recs.

a 2100+ would definately get you into lower ivy’s.

So I think i will Apply to Harvard, Stanford, and either Columbia or Cornell, depending on which has the better better business program of the two [I think columbia does, but I am not sure]. Would Penn Wharton be realistic at all?
So assuming I hit the 2100’s crosses fingers, I would be even considered to the above mentioned schools? Thats awesome. Now I just need to write amazing essays. lol.
So then, what would my chances be for [Assuming I get between a 2000 and 2200]
Harvard
Stanford
Cornell
Columbia
UPenn Wharton
I applied to NYU Stern ED, but I doubt I will get in.
