"what would I bring to the diversity of the collage community"

I’m new at this havn’t been in school since 1973 I need some help can’t come up with oppening statement.

you could start by spelling “college” correctly.

I think collages are very diverse. It’s just their nature.

(I couldn’t resist.)

More seriously, I can’t help you with your opening statement (although I do recommend the short book called “On Writing the College Application Essay” by Harry Bauld), but the content of the essay itself shouldn’t be bad. When you write an essay, you want to do it memoir style - focus on a particular event, but highlight some state of mind, learning experience, etc. You could easily talk about how being a nontraditional student (older student) contributes to the school’s atmosphere. Lest this is a school that is focused on nontraditional students, having someone with real world experience is considered a plus to the whole community.

Well, on with actual advice…

You mention you haven’t done this since 1973; your life experience would certainly make you stand out in comparison with the other members of the college community.

Just start by addressing the obvious difference between you and those in the community you wish to join, your age.
