What would make for a better personal statement?

<p>I am currently working on a personal statement for my college application and have come up with two ideas:

  1. Discuss how I changed high schools after the 10th grade to go to one of the most competitive schools in my state and excelled. It would explain how I took a risk by leaving a school where I was a top student to join an institution where 1/5 students are either kicked out or withdraw because of the difficulty.
  2. Discuss my small business, [Fastlane</a> Web Media » Welcome to Fastlane Web Media](<a href=“http://www.fastlanewebmedia.com%5DFastlane”>http://www.fastlanewebmedia.com), which I started my freshman year. The business used to make a lot of money, but my earnings have dwindled as of late because of the failing economy and because I don’t have as much time as I used to work on it.</p>

<p>Which do you think would make for a better personal statement? Is either a good thing to write about?</p>

<p>IMO, (you may wanna hear from others first), the business thing (#2) would be impressive
there are plenty of kids who change high schools to go to competetive schools
but not many who have businesses running</p>
