What would you call a Tufts student? For example, a University of Washington student is a Husky… would they just be an elephant?

a Jumbo

Thank you!

I just told my mom that they were called the Jumbos and her response was “Good god!” lol .

I told my dad I was going to buy him a “Jumbo Dad” shirt and he said “Don’t you dare!”
Still happy to be a Jumbo, though.

^LOL that’s so funny!

Yes, I know of someone for whom this was a deal-breaker. For real, will not even consider applying even though very interested in IR.

My best friend is using The Jumbos as her “what prompted your application” essay, and saying that the unusual mascot was her initial reason for looking into the school, and how it ended up being a really good fit for her because she’s very interested in IR.

what is IR?

^ International Relations

^ arguably the best known abbreviation at Tufts, maybe outside NQR lol

When I found out I was going to Tufts, everyone was like “That is so…ironic,” because I’m just under 5 feet and just under 100 pounds. Except for one friend, who said “You should get a T-shirt that says JUMBOS, right across your chest.” hahahahah

I think it’s kind of annoying, though, that tour guides are required to say some crap about how Jumbo was named one of the most unique mascots by Sports Illustrated or something…WHO CARES? I feel like they’re weakly trying to appeal to people who will be rah-rah-sports-school-spirit. Personal opinion.

Well, I have to say that I am rah-rah-school-spirit, and it worked!
