What would you do if you caught your child doing this?

This post isn’t related to school work but social life.
If you had a D, and you catch her dating/sleeping w/ various guys, what would you do?
And if you had a S who was a player or smoked drugs, what would you do?

The reason I ask this is because I see this at my school yet the parents don’t seem to care. I’m wondering if this is only my school or does everyone think like this…

Judging others on the basis of limited information is dangerous business. I can safely hypothesize that I would do differently than you.

Maybe im misunderstanding what u wrote?
I’m not judging any of my peers, I just want to know what parents think

Drugs is a whole different issue than sexual activity.

Hi
Can I ask you few things if you don’t mind?
You must be in HS, which grade or how old are you?
Do you have GF or BF that you are physically involved with?
Have you done anything, drinking smoking drugs that you are not supposed to do but everyone else are doing it?
If you haven’t, what is that stopping you?
Why do you think it bothers you that other kids’ parents do not seem to care?

You do not have to answer any of those if you don’t want to.
I think I understand why you came here to ask parents.
I have learned first hand,
-some parents do not have a clue what their straight A students are doing to function enough to keep those straight As in competitive HS.
-some parents are from the generation of smoking pot and sleeping around being the norm and if they’d tell their kids not to do what they did, that would make them hypocrites.
-some parents think once kids are 18, they are adults and they should use their own judgement. Many HS seniors are grown-up in this sense.
-some parents crave for intimacy they could not get from SOs and use their children’s often opposite sex friends as its substitute. They’d try to be popular by supplying smoke or beer at their safe home and telling it is a secret, or play counselor and ask many personal questions and try to solve issues that are none of their business but should have been own parents’.

 • some parents are form different culture or values and as a family, kids are brainwashed from very young age. They’d keep to themselves and no problem unless children would rebel to the degree that either they would break laws and arrested, or parents being reported (sometimes by own children) to be separated from abusive home.

You might think not in my school, or not in my neighborhood.
Maybe not, then you are very lucky.

“If you had a D, and you catch her dating/sleeping w/ various guys, what would you do?
And if you had a S who was a player or smoked drugs”

Double standards much?

“because I see this at my school”

Well, you hear about it. What people do and what they say they do are two different things.

Just mind your own business…

+1 People brag to be ‘cool’ and vice versa. Rumor = / = fact.

Leave them alone, and know that if you avoid such things, you won’t have to worry about unintended pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, or addiction to (legal or illegal) recreational drugs.

@halcyonheather
The reason why I put drugs for guys was because there almost seems to be an attitude of respect towards players… maybe just my feels
I guess im just more curious/concerned more than anything… im just that kind of person

Trying to understand will lead nowhere.

Leave them to their rumored ratchetness and move on. Nothing to see here.

Best answer I’ve seen ;)

The parents may care, but not know.

The parents may care and know, but not have the skills to handle the information.

The parents may know and have no problem with their kids acting out sexually/doing drugs. I’ve known parents who thought nothing of smoking dope themselves, and didn’t mind if their kids did-- or would even encourage their kids to.

The parents may care and know, and are trying very hard to get their offspring to make more thoughtful choices.

I don’t see anything wrong with someone dating different people. That’s kind of the point of dating – to get to know someone one might want to have a loving relationship with. Sleeping around indiscriminately would warrant conversation, regardless of child’s gender, and possibly more, depending on circumstances. Drug use would warrant action, too.

People who respect “players” for being players are not worth thinking about, beyond “How sad.”

If I had a daughter who was failing a class, I would put her into tutoring. Her sexual relationships are none of my business and as long as I know she’s using protection, it’s out of my control.
If I had a son who was failing a class, I would also put him into tutoring. But for the drug issue, I can’t blind myself and I’ll have a discussion with him and talk about rehabilitation programs for teens.
Can I just add that I get the impression youre concluding that the girl is failing with a D because shes sexually active? People make mistakes, but it doesnt define who they are. Grades dont either.

Some parents are in denial about what their kids are doing. We know a young man (15) who was a very nice little boy. He is now an out of control teen and his parents are in denial about what he is doing. He got caught with marijuana on school grounds. He told his parents it was someone else’s and his parents believed him. This same kid cracked his knee running from the police. In my mind, this kid running from the police indicates that he is KNOWN to the police. According to his parents the police were out to get their son. Complete denial.
