What would you do?

If you were an admissions officer, would you admit the kid with 4.0, 2400, great extracurriculars, non hook?

Or the 3.5 with a D+ on his/her transcript, but national EC’s, with tons of leadership, and sport recruit, and science research?

The latter student explained the D and retook the course and aced it.

The latter student. S/he shows more potential.

My counselor told me to think about this question. I don’t understand though. 3.5 is a lowwww gpa and transcripts are the most important part of the app. I would admit the person with more academic potential, namely the first student.

I consider academics to be very important. However, most likely the candidates had different circumstances.

Who knows? The student with the 3.5 may have also worked part-time to make ends’ meet for his family, while the kid with the 4.0 had a relatively easy time during high school.
