I’m confused…
I’ve heard UC’s only look at soph and junior year.
Other schools sometimes include freshmen year? First semester Senior year?

Without Freshmen year i have a 2.955
With Freshmen year a 3.8

Hmmm, sounds like you’ve started slacking since freshman year. That’s not good regardless of how an institution calculates your GPA.

Check with your GC on how your school calculates GPA. That will give you an idea of what number will appear on the GC form of your app. Usually it includes freshman year and your first semester senior year. If you apply ED/EA, your first semester senior year will not be included.

Usu most colleges start looking from freshman year…at least your transcript will contain the freshman year grades too…so in that case there’s a better chance that they’ll be also just at least glancing over your freshmen grades.

AHHH i realized i missed a 0, and an important one at that… 3.08
I had a 3.33 freshmen year
2.66 sophmore year (rough year)
junior year i got a 3.4 first semester 3.0 second

Is there a reason for the drop?

Like working afterschool, death in family, any unusual occurances?

I was quiet wondering abt ur such unbelievable jump! I thought u took 8 APs w/ perfect scores!!! You still have a good chance to get it well over 3.7 if u try real hard…

yes, at the beginning of soph year my cousin died in an accident, it was pretty widely known at my school

I would make sure your GC knows about the circumstances and talks about them in his/her letter. In these types of cases, adcoms usually forgive poor grades since there is a legit reason. Definitely make sure to work really hard next semester though!

Well bring that up in your college admission, how the tragedy affected you and you learned from it etc.

thanks guys

And don’t apply EA or ED anywhere because they don’t consider first semester of senior year. Instead, try really hard first semester and apply RD so that it is considered. If you do really well, this would really help instead of just another average year.

i’m going to sound like an idiot but keeping in mind college counseling is majorly lacking at my school… whats EA or ED? RD?

EA = early action (the non-binding choice)
ED = early decision (the binding choice)
RD = regular decision (regular choice)
