I need to bring brownies for a dinner and I’m not much of a baker. (I like to experiment and that’s not good with baking.) The dinner is for musicians who are participating in a music festival. (My friend is the organizer of the event.) I get to go to the final concert as a thank you. Any recommendations/links to an easy and tasty brownie recipe? I usually use a boxed mix, but I have some time now and I’m willing to make them from scratch, unless someone tells me there’s a box mix that’s amazing.
I like these - your standard but great chewy brownies. You can of course do add ins if you like - nuts inside or on top, frost them, sprinkle Heath bar pieces.
DH made this last night.
I totally saved that. Thank you. Would you do anything different?
Wonder (to save time) if you could use these thawed - you’re going to press them into the pan anyway
I really like the boxed Ghirardelli brownies, especially the ones with caramel and nuts. I add some extra nuts, and people really like them.
All of the Ghirardelli one’s I’ve tried have been good.
Yes. I would more like mash the potatoes and make the “crust” part a LOT thinner!
These are worth the work
I’ve been seeing a lot of instagram posts on dense bean salads. They look like a good way of getting more veggies into your daily diet. Anyone have my recipes they have liked?
Taco salad tonight - it was delicious. Sometimes the old standbys shouldn’t be forgotten and should be embraced!
Lettuce from my garden
Crushed Doritos
Seasoned meat
Cojita cheese
Cheddar cheese
Homemade chopped salsa (not blended)
Sour cream
Cilantro!
A shake or two of Cholula hot sauce
I had Romaine lettuce that was ready to pick in my garden and decided to make a Caesar salad. I looked for a recipe in my old Joy of Cooking and used the one I found in it. (Romaine, garlic, EVOO, coddled egg, salt, pepper, anchovy filets–I used anchovy paste, Dijon mustard, red wine vinegar, Worcestershire Sauce, one lemon juiced.)
It was excellent. I’ve been lazy and was using Newman’s Own Caesar dressing. Making it from scratch was so much better.
I made this a few months ago and replaced the egg with mayo (D2 can’t have egg) and it was good. Thanks for the reminder about this recipe. I think I will make a Caesar salad this weekend.
I literally have been craving a good Caesar salad!
Google “3 bean salad” and choose according to the beans you like and the flavoring. Just an idea. I just made an old fashioned one and it’s pretty good. I think any combination of beans you like in a vinegar/sugar type dressing is good. Of course any number of types of beans.
I buy the two large jar pack of three bean salad from Costco - I think it’s pretty good! And a quick side for lunch or dinner.
I like a three bean salad and agree the Costco one is good. The recipes I’m seeing have added fresh veggies, sometimes deli meats, sometimes rotisserie chicken and cheeses. One young recipe creator posts herself chopping and making salads but you have to subscribe to her sub stack to get the actual recipes.
For anyone looking for dessert ideas to wow dinner guests…I made these the other day. They were incredible:
I keep checking my Costco for pistachio crème as I’ve heard some places had it - not yet here!
I got mine in the aisle with the peanut butter at our local Wegmans.
It was a little sweeter than I preferred, so I just added a bit of tahini to the mixture and that worked well.
I’m going to make a corn salad tonight. The recipe calls for using the corn raw. I’ve never used corn raw and was considering roasting it first.
I love raw corn in salad and eat it often and have never got sick or had any issues! I like that it keeps all its bite.
