At the cottage for our last summer weekend. Cleaning up and putting away! It’s been great, but I’m tired of the drive and carting food back and forth. I’m ready to do other things in my city and with my friends on the weekends!
Tomorrow night we are going with friends on a double decker cruise boat around the lake for a social event. Appetizers, music and drinks. This boat goes around twice a day, and I’ve watched it for 15 years and have never done it.
@conmama oh, closing lake time is SO hard for me! We will still keep ours open largely through October. But we aren’t close enough to go every weekend.
@abasket, I’ve only missed 2 weekends since May 4th. I am so ready. We don’t shut off water, so typically come once In the fall to rake leaves and once in the winter to check on the place.
My Dad turned 85 today, and we are going to celebrate this weekend. My Mom is 82, and they’re both still in relatively good health, able to get about and care for one another. Such a blessing! We have reservations for ten tomorrow evening at a popular local seafood restaurant. Afterwards, we’ll all gather at our house for dessert and coffee. My sibs are traveling in from out of state, and three generations will be present. I plan to drink in every moment, and keep it as a cherished memory against the time when Dad may no longer be with us. As I grow older myself, the non-material takes on greater and greater importance. We only have the eternal now. I’m working to live fully. Now.
@poetsheart Happy Birthday to your Dad. I love your words. In my community this week we have had a reminder that life is fragile. It reminds me to focus on living life fully, spending time with my family and those I love.
This weekend- H is out playing tennis and I’m enjoying a bit of lazy computer time before I start my day. It’s a clear blue sky, sunny day and I can enjoy the outdoor view from my bedroom. The birds are making a racket out on my deck. Realizing now that I have a woodpecker pecking on my wooden handrail. They usually stick to the Monterey Cypress tree. This is the best time of the year in my opinion in my area. Today I’ll do some exercise at home. My son is going to come by this afternoon for a swim and dinner. It feels my heart with joy to get to spend time with him. H is recording the USOpen women’s final and we will watch it tonight. Tomorrow is a gym day for me. My H will play tennis and he will go to the beach in the afternoon. The beach is more sun than I like so I will relax and read by my pool under the umbrella. My H will come home mid afternoon and we usually enjoy that time of day outside. Usually on Sunday we make a pizza in the summer from Whole Foods pizza dough. It has been a summer Sunday tradition since my kids were young to make pizza after a day at the beach.
Next weekend we have a wedding on Sunday and two of my kids and their partners will join us.
Staying indoors with air conditioning as much as possible- Dorian may have missed Tampa but it left even hotter air and less rain with clouds to cool things off- mid 90’s.
A free weekend is a good weekend! Did tons of yard work this morning. We had a new roof put on so I walked around the perimeter to pick up stray roofing materials (almost none - a really conscientious crew). Trimmed lots of bushes, put the patio plants and furniture back where it belongs. The temperature is amazing so I’ll be back out there after a quick lunch break.
We ( H and I) flew to Dublin last night. Met up with S who lives in London. Had a very nice dinner and we are beat. Plans for tours/ sightseeing the next 3 days then on to London.
This is not our typical weekend!
Started my weekend early by leaving the office at noon yesterday and doing a lot of “Saturday “ errands. Cheered the Hoos on to a second victory! It has been quiet today which is a good thing. Went to the gym, a very dull hour of elliptical. Worked with Sabapuppy, multiple walks with both dogs. Reviewing some landscaping and contractor proposals. Same old!
Spent a good part of the day with my mom - a few days belated b-day for her - 86! Did some yard work for her and she made me zucchini “latkes” - fair trade I’d say!
Weekend started Friday noon and it’s our town’s swap meet and garage sale weekend. Had some pretty good luck at sales and met DH for supper. Then I met DD’19 who came home for the football game. Our school has had an abysmal few years in football (no win season last year) but we have a new coach. The past just makes it that much more exciting and fun to watch them win big. DD’s boyfriend played really well and she had a fantastic night seeing him and other HS friends.
DD’17 came this morning and we hit more sales! DD’19 left for school this afternoon but the rest of us are about to go check out a brand new restaurant in a tiny nearby town that’s undergoing some revitalization. So far a lovely weekend. Tommorow should be quiet.
@abasket , the “Say it” thread was a lifesaver. I got it off my chest there, and I was able to stay professional to the end. School starts Monday, and I will be home drinking coffee with my H instead of doing orientation. So happy to have my life back! I will eventually look for another job, but I need some down time first.
Only three people came to our neighborhood cookout, but they are people we like, ha. I’m glad our son is here this weekend. He seems good. I’m disappointed he wants to quit his job, but it was fun watching tennis and football with him. Even with all his difficulties, he’s a wonderful young man and I’m glad we get to see him a lot.
Took my dogs to Home Depot in support of the porch lighting project. Very busy and crowded today, they did a beautiful job keeping their heads together (still young at 2.5 and 1.25 years), and people were so nice to them. My proudest moment was getting through the Lawn & Garden section without Little Adolescent Man marking any of the specimen plants.
Nice to read about everyone’s plans as well as the good news about trips abroad, quitting an unpleasant job, celebrating parent’s birthdays, sharing special times with kids, etc. We’re having a busy weekend with a bridge game Saturday morning (we won and advance to the next level!), a retirement party yesterday afternoon with an after party with about 8 of us hanging out at a friend’s house last night and now we’re waiting for some friends to arrive. They live 90 minutes away and are coming for the afternoon. Will be fun as we don’t get to see them all that often. They did share that they just started nutrisystem so we had to change what we planned to serve for lunch! Enjoy the last few hours everyone!
I need this question every weekend. Just seeing it has helped me be more productive. I organized several shelves in the garage that were long overdue for sorting and containing. Sometimes I put off the smallest projects because I know they won’t take much time, but never actually do them.
