It is a good thread! Thanks @abasket My daughter wound up coming over for dinner last night to meet her new siblings (the 2 new adopted Golden Retrievers) since her boyfriend was out of town, so that was a nice treat. I wore myself out Saturday morning with a longish run so I’ve been fairly lazy today after my morning run. Walked the dogs (they are learning how to leash walk- never did that in their past life) and trying to get my football teams to victory. Looks like Tennessee has it locked up, but I don’t trust the Eagles yet.
Farmer’s market, New York Times crossword puzzle, an hour or so making minor changes to an architectural drawing and getting them printed, took a load to Goodwill that has been in and out of my car and in and out of my dining room for months, gym, finished a great novella (last in a four part series), caprese salad with heirloom tomatoes twice and a seafood soup from the Jerusalem cookbook once. Laundry. I’m going to frame some pictures now which got accepted into a local juried show.
I’ll try to remember to post this on Fridays. Fee free to start one if I don’t! I used to do this on another board I belonged to and everyone liked it. It’s fun to read but also good for people to know that sometimes we are just happy for a weekend home or spending the weekend in not a glamorous way - cause that’s life!
Pretty pleased with the weekend. My major task of power washing the house got done! Took me (and a little help from H) about 3 hours. Couldn’t reach the tippy top but overall, much better!
Hoping my boring weekend resonates with others who didn’t post. A conference Friday, dress fitting Saturday, shopping for goody bags, returning shoes, and basic errands. Other than breakfast and lunch with friends, that’s it. Oh yes, binging on The Great British baking show. Forgot to mention a few hours putting my patio back after “hurricane”.
Okay, @FallGirl I need to give you some competition! I am in Fiji for a work trip, and Monday is a national holiday so I have a 3 day weekend! (It’s Monday here already) Usually I am alone on my work trips, but there is another consultant here (different company, same client) so we have been doing things together. Yesterday we hired a guide and went to a nearby rainforest area and hiked some trails. Saturday we explored the city and went to a museum. Enjoying eating most of my meals outdoors in gorgeous weather. I’m not in a touristy/resort area, but making the most of the opportunity to be here.
Friday night, I went out with a neighbor for happy hour. Her second child left for college, and remembering how tough those first few weeks can be, I made a point to set something up with her (which is unusual for me; while I am literally a thoughtful person, my good intentions often fail to reach the action stage). Turned out that I had at least as much fun as she did!
H is rehabbing a house that goes on the market next week, so most of Saturday and Sunday were spent cleaning, mulching, etc. Way more physical labor than I’m used to, so I kept reminding myself that it was like multiple free gym workouts.
Happily, we took a break this afternoon to watch the Eagles pull out a victory, along with the Phillies (who have a small but quite doable shot at a wild card spot). H’s sister and two of her kids came over after the games and we had a nice dinner at the local brew pub. I think I will sleep well tonight.
DH got new light fixtures up on our north-facing porch. Took a bit of rewiring because he added two. He’s got some finishing touches – sealant, etc. – then will clear the work-in-progress tools and parts off the dining table.
I started moving books from the master into one of the kids’ rooms; baby steps to make space for incoming bookcases.
We also filmed 26 y.o. DS2’s middle school volcano project’s eruption! A two-foot-high Mt. Whatever, two dogs, vinegar, baking soda, and a cell phone. He gave us a go to declutter it but asked us to put it through its paces first. Good times.
Finally sat down to my needlework around 8 yesterday evening. Part of the delay was rearranging drawer space in living area, moving paperwork out and needlework supplies in (because in a contest between tax records and Belfast linen, I know what I want at hand). I have a weakness for frames, supplies, patterns, other tools. Remember the splurge thread?
A nice weekend and great thread – thanks @abasket !
Best thing about the weekend was a beach day yesterday. Hanging on to summer as long as I can! Was quite lovely, although not hot.
Dh is 10,000 miles away. S1 is 3,000, S2 is 5,000. The kitchen table (plus extra craft table) and TV is now my quilting lair, at least until Friday. I AM GOING TO GET PROJECTS DONE THIS WEEK!
Note to self: Do not waste your time watching the Lions again next weekend. It’s more than two hours you will never get back (remind yourself about yesterday, if in doubt).
Ok, on Friday, I’m hosting my 13th annual education day about a health condition.
On Saturday, taking 1st of a series of 6 weekly classes about kidney disease with H (being taught by retired nephrologist) and going to pharmaceutical dinner at very nice restaurant. H may be at risk, since his mom had dialysis and his kidney function isn’t ideal.
Sunday may go for a hike and read more of Hamilton and get ready to attend a meeting for M-W.
I got to golf with my good friend who just came back from her husband’s cancer surgery. The surgery went well, he’s doing great and we had such fun playing.
This thread was really therapeutic last week. I’d love to hear more about what people are doing this weekend!
We are having dinner with good friends tonight, but the rest of the weekend is nicely unscheduled. It will definitely feature birdwalk/hikes, the farmer’s market, some pingpong, and some wine (very definitely not all at once).
Planting 60 bulbs, getting some project estimates, having dinner with friends, and going to the opera
This weekend we are driving to the Jersey shore to spend a week. Looking forward to just relaxing, doing some walking and bike riding, visiting with friends and family, and eating out.
Unfortunately, I have conflicting funerals tomorrow, so my husband will go to one and I will go to the other. While sad, I will be able to reconnect with some former co-workers who I haven’t seen in some time, so that part is good. Otherwise, my running group is having a potluck picnic late Saturday afternoon, which will be fun if the extreme heat breaks a little bit. My birthday was Thursday, so hopefully we can get together my daughter and her boyfriend for Sunday dinner.
@thumper1 the real summer season for locals!
So my car is in the shop, nearly $1800 in repairs. Grrr. Well it is older and has never had any major problems. I’m just getting everything fixed before I head out on a two week road trip across country (south to north) next weekend. Will stop and see my S at college on the way back too!
That means not much going on here. Pregnant, unmarried, out of work, 22 year old daughter is having trouble with her bf (shock! - not) and is having a meltdown but she went out of state to visit a gf for the weekend. Thank goodness! I need a break from her depression and neediness.
We have a party with friends tomorrow night and other than that I’m getting things ready for my trip! 50 of us from all over the US are getting together for a 4 day scrapbooking meet-up so I have a lot to get ready and take. Just want the hot weather to end!
@MomofWildChild, Happy Birthday. Mine was the 12th too! I have one niece the 11th and another today, the 13th.
My H is leaving on a short overnight work trip tonight, he will be back tomorrow afternoon or early evening. S lives with us and will be working tomorrow, so I will have several hours of alone time tomorrow, home alone without a car.
I may have a movie marathon. Or, I may decide what I need to start a project I want to do. I have been collecting supplies and am not sure what is left to get before I get started. I should probably take an inventory and make a list. I will also have the Iowa/Iowa State game on TV.
Sunday will be church and watching football or baseball on TV.
