I spent the day doing some much needed cleaning and organizing. I’m relaxing at the moment. Tomorrow we are getting on the road super early to make the 5 hour drive up to S19’s campus to watch his team play. Since we are leaving at the crack of dawn, tonight I’m gathering up the odds and ends he asked us to bring up for him, getting all our tailgating paraphernalia in the car, plus packing my overnight bag so we can just get in car and go tomorrow.
I’m a little nervous because we are leaving our high maintenance dog in the care of my teenage neighbor. She is a fantastic dog sitter and has taken care of our other dog, who will be here also, but this is the first time we’ve left the crazy dog in her care. She is actually spending the night here b/c my dog needs someone to sleep with her ? Finger crossed all will go well. We will be back mid day on Sunday.
We’re taking trash and recycling to the dump. I’m mailing a couple of returns, which means three stops – one to print then two separate shipping points. I emptied the bookcase and secretary desk in the master and hope we can make space for them in the attic.
In needlework, I received supplies for an online course I’m taking. Looking forward to lesson 1.
In dogs, they’re not still tired from DH’s efforts last week so we’re doing it all over again.
I am debating whether I want to go to our wine country to do some wine tasting with a bunch of mostly lawyers, lol. If we end up going, I need to convince Mr. that the new gutter for the deck overhang has to be attached before that shebang. Have no plans for Sunday though. Mr. is sick of eating out while on business, so I will have to whip up some homemade food for him.
My plans for Friday night through Sunday night:
With my spouse, take our dog to play on the beach.
Visit my mother and help her practice walking.
Plan upcoming staff development sessions I am leading in the next two weeks.
Communicate with outside staff developers to coordinate their visits for the year.
Work out a rotating substitute teacher schedule.
Schedule tentative times to observe and evaluate teachers in October, to be confirmed with each teacher next week.
Read a book in preparation for our administrative leadership team meeting next week.
Watch the last episode of The O.A. Season Two with my spouse.
Enjoy Facetiming with our son.
Our S is finishing up his summer internship today then flying home for a few days before beginning his senior year. We’ll watch our D play in a soccer league game on Saturday, then maybe some college football. Big dinners in the works so we can hear about S’s exploits and plans. Work or grad school? That is the question. Having so many options will make for some great conversations I’m sure.
Thank you for bumping this up for the weekend! I totally forgot!
I love reading all the comments - you may not think your life is interesting but honestly, along with the traveling threads I love hearing about everyday life or everyday weekend in America!
H and just arrived at our cottage for the weekend. Cottage time is dwindling down. This is probably the last weekend I can go in September and an October trip unless we get some nice weather is probably for closing.
We are on Lake Huron in Canada in Ontario. If weather cooperates I’ll run each morning, spend some time on the beach catching some last summer sun, walk near the water, walk the small town nearby and maybe catch some dinner. Not sure if it will be warm enough to swim, but maybe! The water is usually at it’s best right now!
I am going to a wedding shower tomorrow, then to dinner & a comedy show with H’s former boss and his wife. Sunday, the kids are coming over for dinner. Should be a nice weekend.
Going to the Notre Dame game. The weather should be perfect (thankfully, since we’ve returned to muggy mid-90’s).
Sunday, I’m re-seeding all the edges of my long drive and digging out my foundation so I can install a rubber membrane. I love productive, getting-things-done days and winter is looming, so I’ll feel great when these two projects are done.
Definite plans - hosting a pool party for the high school choir on Sunday afternoon (probably will be a low turnout); church that morning, hoping to hit the Pokemon Go community day briefly in between ;-).
Other - it’s my oldest’s last weekend at home before moving back to Oregon. She’s been with us since she graduated from undergrad in May, now heading off for a year of classes she needs to apply for grad school (changed her mind on career plan and needs more classes before applying). She’ll be going to U of Oregon, an hour away from her old school. We are all a little nervous. Hubby is driving her up and then flying off for 2 weeks to Europe for business so I won’t see him for a while again either. So between maybe a family meal out or a dinner out with my husband or something like that tomorrow and then helping the middle kid keep focussed on college applications, making sure the youngest isn’t just watching Youtube videos all weekend, walking the dog, getting the laundry done…
I really need to clean our windows and need to work out the best timing for that. We have about 7 more weeks of dry/dusty season and then the wet season starts. There’s a lot of grit buildup in the frames from leaf blowers. If I do it now it’s going to build up again before the rain starts, but if I wait I have to do it after it gets cold.
I’ve got a busy weekend. Farmers market for what is likely to be the last of the heirloom tomatoes. Delivering two paintings that were accepted to a juried art show. Lunch is a meeting of the library’s cookbook club. Assignment to cook something by a famous chef. I’m drowning in bell peppers so I am making a bell pepper soup from a Paul Prudhomme cookbook that belonged to my Mom. My Mom was a wonderful cook, who loved to read cookbooks, though she rarely actually followed a recipe. After lunch dh wants us to go to a local craft fair where no doubt my assignment is to like something so he can get it for me for my birthday which is on Sunday. On Sunday we will go to a museum in the City and then to dinner at Per Se. Then on Monday the grind begins again!
Tonight, we celebrated good friend’s 59th birthday at Happy Hour with a group we’ve had for 30 plus years. Lots of fun!
Husband and I need to spend time together because he’s heading to London for 10 days. It’s still too unbearably hot to go hiking or to outdoor festivals. I think we’ll go to an RV show and dream of our upcoming retirement. We’ve always loved being outdoors, camping and plan on getting a slightly larger camping trailer.
Tonight both girls came home and we went to the HS football game. Not nearly as fun as last week as this team rolled right over us.
DD’19 goes back in the morning so I plan to get up and make pancakes. DD’17 and I may have a quiet day, DH might work.
Sunday we are going to a huge county fair where DH’s family shows miniature ponies. We need to bring the Cinderella carriage DH made for DD’s musical that he then converted to hitch to the ponies. For costume class, our 14 year old niece will wear hat and tails to drive the ponies and her 8 year old sister will be the princess. It’s pretty precious!
We had a plumber out yesterday which necessitated me having to remove things from cabinets in our bathroom so tomorrow, while dh is at a board retreat, I will be reorganizing the bathroom and getting the pile that’s on my floor pared down and back where it belongs.
We’ve had season tickets to the city’s theater productions for many years with 3 other couples. For a variety of reasons, the group decided not to renew and tomorrow night is the last show of the season so the last time we’ll have our traditional dinner and theater together.
Met a friend yesterday for morning coffee, then we decided to meet for an early dinner at a local taqueria. Still warm enough to sit outside. Great food. Great friend.
At coffee, we ran into my all time fav (living) artist. A perk of living in an artsy corner of an artsy city. Every time, this inspires me to get back to my own art.
My weekend starts on Friday. Yesterday I went to a regular Friday morning meeting I attend. Met my H at home and we went to lunch at an outdoor cafe we often frequent for our weekly Friday lunch. In the afternoon we took our dog to visit with my D’s dog who is not doing well. Spent the evening at home.
Today is tennis for H in the morning. I’m hanging out at home. It’s pretty warm out so I’m not sure what I’ll do. This afternoon we have a bbq pre wedding dinner at our local beach picnic area. Tomorrow we will attend the wedding of a family friend. Two of my kids and their SO’s are also invited. It’s at a venue a 90 minutes away and the Dad has hired a bus to transport some of us locals down to the venue. It will be our first attendance at a same sex wedding.
