I’m a Hispanic male from southern New Jersey. My GPA is around 3.8 unweighted, 4.0 (or more) weighted. My SATs are as follows: 670 - CR, 680 - Math, 700- Writing (I know, a little low for Tufts). I was class President, mock trial for three years, started a non-profit through school called S.T.A.N.D. (Students Taking Action in a New Direction) among other things.

I know Tufts is a reach. Yes, I accept that. But I worry about my SAT IIs. I took a batch of three last year and received the following:

US History - 570
Literature - 590
Math I - 670

Are these scores going to hurt me badly? I hadn’t planned on retaking them, but now I may have to. Is there anything else I can do to bolster my app? Thanks for your input.

Definitely retake those SAT IIs. Write great essays. Do an alumni interview and wow him/her. If Tufts is your first choice, consider ED II to show how committed you are to the school.

Stress the fact that you’re Hispanic…

But nah man, you ever consider the fact that Rutgers is one of the illest flagship stateschool programs in the country? You ever consider the possibility that Tufts might be a rediculous waste of money and time?

Don’t know your situation homie but you better check yourself. Tufts aint gonna give you anything thats worth six figures. Do you at the state school and do yourself well…you do well you’ll be a prime candidate for the top professional programs in the country.

I’m just saying man, be honest with yourself. Why would you want to come to a school such as this? Are you from Newark? East Orange? God almighty I love North New Jersey…it’s everything New York used to be. I miss old new york so much.

Regardlesss, do you and God bless man. Stay real.

I think you have a realistic shot. However, I would also like to stress that despite what rightbackatyou claims, there is a lot here that Tufts can offer you (as you’ve probably already figured that out by looking at the school and deciding to apply in the first place). The tuition is expensive, but he represents one dissenting opinion among many of us that have found our education to not only be worthwhile, but priceless in our endeavors for grad schools. His values may be contingent on his own perceptions of worth, so consider his criticisms with a grain of salt.

When have I ever claimed that Tufts doesn’t have anything to offer? If you can come here for a reduced sentence, oops, I mean reduced FEE then by all means take advantage of that private school education.

I’m just saying don’t be so darn sentimental dude. Yes, you should, I should and any realistic person out there should put a dollar value on their education because despite what you seem to be suggesting here, education is not priceless. Maybe in an abstract sense this rather obscure idea of ‘education’ or ‘learning’ or ‘wisdom’ or whatever is a bit difficult to quanitfy, but c’mon dude, you can’t ignore the fact that a private school education has a real dollar value that simply isn’t affordable for about 90% of the population.

I think the fact that ur hispanic and the leadership you’ve shown in your school, as well as your high uw gpa will offset your SAT II scores, but I’d still retake it.

I personally would pick Tufts over Rutgers, even Rutgers honors, but I see why someone else wouldn’t. I think Tufts offers one of the best undergraduate experiences out there, and although it is expensive, there aren’t many Tufts-type schools that are much cheaper.

I don’t think you should retake your sat II’s… colleges don’t really care about them unless they’re horrible or brilliant, and yours are in the middle so it’s fine.
