What's a decent/good GPA at UCSD?

Just curious to find out since I was told not to expect As in everything, but how do I know if I’m doing good, alright, or terribly? I’m a Computer Science major if that makes any difference.

3.3 to be competitive for internships/jobs

Does major GPA matter more than regular GPA for internships/jobs?

A decent GPA in my opinion would be a 3.5.

A good GPA would be at the level which qualifies you for latin honors at the time of graduation.

Cum Laude: 3.648 - 3.791
Magna Cum Laude: 3.792 - 3.896
Summa Cum Laude: 3.897 - 4.000

Summa Cum Laude is award to top 2%, Magna Cum Laude is awarded to the next 4%, and Cum Laude is awarded to the next 8%. So if your GPA is above 3.648 you would be in the top 14% of your class.

Of course the higher your GPA the better your chances are for anything academic such as internships, jobs, and graduate school.

^ those numbers are re-evaluated every year, fyi

Oops…forgot to mention that. Thank you Astrina.

Latin Honors are indeed re-evaluated every year with Cum Laude usually hovering around the 3.65 level. The numbers presented above are for the 2010-2011 school year.

You do realize that a disproportionately small amount of CS/Engineers earn Latin Honors, right?

A 3.3 in CS is much more impressive than a 3.3 in, let’s say, Poli Sci. Average GPA cutoffs for competitive internships, jobs, and masters programs for CS majors tend to be lower than in other discplines.

A 4.0 is usually considered pretty decent.

^lol.

Thanks for the help guys.

How bad is a 2.575 your very first quarter…? I THOUGHT I WASN’T GOING TO PASS MY CLASSES!

I swear I will study 100x harder the rest of my life, good lord.
