What's a department? What's a program?

Can someone please explain the difference between the departments and programs listed on this page: [Elon College, the College of Arts and Sciences](<a href=“Elon College, the College of Arts & Sciences | Elon University”>Elon College, the College of Arts & Sciences | Elon University)

The program of Non-Violence Studies looks right up Son’s alley. But when we click on it, we can’t tell if it’s a major or a minor. [Elon University - Academics](<a href=“Elon University - America’s Top-Ranked Teaching University”>Elon University - America’s Top-Ranked Teaching University)

They refer to it as “this minor” in the second paragraph. So, does that mean the first paragraph describes is as a major?

Thanks.

They could certainly make it clearer, but most (if not all) of the “Programs” are interdisciplinary minors, not majors. The interdisciplinary majors are in the column under Departments. This page [Elon University - Academics](Elon University - America’s Top-Ranked Teaching University) is better and has a clear list of majors and minors at the bottom.

It looks like three communications majors (Broadcast & New Media, Corporate, Cinema) have been deleted. Have they all been combined into Communication Science, a new major for 2008?

…bump…

Sort of. There appears to have been a large revamp, effective this year.
