What's a good GPA for UC Berkeley?

I plan on applying as a pre-med student to UC Berkeley (I was told that Berkeley isn’t all big on medicine so apparently it’s easier to get in as a pre-med student than schools like UCLA and Johns Hopkins). What GPA is considered “good” or even “average” for Berkeley? Among my other factors, I have pretty solid extracurriculars, some work experience, over 200 volunteer hours and I have research experience from my internship at my local state university. My SAT score is in the 2100 range (I plan on retaking it in the fall and hopefully I get at least 2300) and I plan on taking subject tests after I take my SAT’s the second time (I’ll probably get around 750 on bio and hopefully 700 on lit, I already got 770 on Math IIC). Btw, I’m Asian so it’ll probably put me at a disadvantage.

Berkeley is still a big med school feeder even though it doesn’t have its own med school… and no, Asians aren’t at a disadvantage there.

What matters for Berkeley is the capped UCGPA; if you have 8 AP/IB (and honors if in-state) courses or more from 10th to 12th grade, then the best 8 will be weighted one grade point up. 4.0+ capped UCGPA is typical.

i would say if you have a 4.25+, you’re in a good position along with a 2300+ to get admitted as long as your essays and EC’s are good

The average UW GPA is about 3.91 this year I believe.

@tigerash: When you say that, do you mean the UC GPA or the W GPA?

Okay and what position would you say I’m in if my UW GPA is below the average but my W GPA is above the average (just the way my school works)? My UW GPA is in the 3.6 range but my W GPA is around 4.4. My UC GPA is around 3.5. Which is worrying for me because I did receive straight A’s my freshman year but my courses started getting harder my sophomore and junior year (I took the most rigorous courses offered at my school) and yes I did repeat some of my honors courses that I got B’s in online and got A’s but apparently those don’t count for UC GPA. But like I said, my extracurriculars are good, I don’t think my SAT scores will be a problem and I am a good essay writer so I’m pretty sure my essays will be good enough.
