Whats a "good" SAT score??

I plan on going to a good, not excellent, college ( VaTech or JMU) not UVA or Stanford like some of the people ive seen on here. I got a 1300 (Math-640 & Crit. Read.-660) and a total of 1860(560 Writing). Is that a good score for my options? I searched on here for similar posts but all i found are people with 2000’s who are planing on going to Ivies. I did better than all my friends but looking on here lowered my self-confidence a little…so thanks for the help.

Your post seems to answer itself.

Hey Zach its ok…but not as good as the ivies!!!..So umm…you can surely retake…and write some killer essays!!!

I agree - it’s not great. retake if you havea chance. with some study you should do better - if you do well in school.

A good SAT score is a score which can get you into a school you desire

Criminy. An 1860 puts in you in the top 14% of test-takers in the nation. You already said that you aren’t looking at tippy top schools - your CR and Math scores are above the middle 50% of first-years at James Madison and lie within the averages for Virginia Tech. There’s no need for you to retake the SAT.

Personally, I agree with Whatisthis - a good score is a score that gets you into where you want to go. Your score is average for a James Madison or VA Tech student, so it’s good.

ok. thanks everybody for the info/ advice. all the answers were helpful… i might retake it in january if i can still sign up just to see how much i can improve my score, but like whatisthis and juillet said my scores are good for my options so no big deal if i cant. Thanks again for the really helpful advice
