What's a 'minority' student?

There are many aspects to being a minority (sexual orientation, financial status, ethnicity etc.) but which on are people referring to when saying “Yeah he got mid-50’s SSAT, but he was a minority student.”

Race, Location(Residential I believe), Gender and Ethnic Group(Maybe you grew up on an indiana conservation) are all in that label of minority.

Most people use minority as a racial description.

Boarding school applicants who are underrepresented - often abbreviated as URM on this forum - can have an edge admissions wise as the schools try to build a more diverse community. Typically, this will be black/african american, hispanic/latino and native american students.

in my opinion, muslims too. exeter has about 9 muslim students out of their thousand (source: newspaper article). 2 or 3 of them are most likely girls.

That is a minority… I was just trying to have an off the wall example.

Conservative politics, absolutely, at least at D.C.-area day schools that lean liberal. I don’t know about prep schools.

Yep good old Indiana, aka The Lone Star State.
Its where Prince Charles spent his honeymoon.

F-I-F

That’s bad…very very bad… :)
