For an afternoon garden wedding, are sparkly beaded evening dresses too much? My sense says ‘yes’, but as I don’t attend many weddings, I’m not sure what’s appropriate.
I have one dark blue Komarov dress from Nordstrom that I like. It’s tea (midi) length. Very cool and comfortable. I could dress it up by wearing more jewelry
The other is a gray chiffon long but has a very sparkly top. It looks good on me but I’m afraid it’s just too much. It seems more appropriate for an evening wedding or a ballroom wedding.
I think, as MOB, it’s up to you and your D. What “atmosphere” is she trying to create - I’ve been to some pretty formal afternoon weddings where sparkly would not have been out of place and others where everything, including the wedding party dress, is more low key. Are there attendants? What are they wearing?
I’d first pose the question to the bride and groom. Find out what they are wearing, what the ushers/bridesmaids are wearing and that should give you a better idea of what will make sense for you.
I think komarov dresses are so pretty and festive. @TatinG I think it will be perfect for an afternoon wedding. And they are so comfortable, an even bigger plus.
Yes they are cool and comfortable. I think I’ve made my mind up between two of the Komarov dresses. I never liked the dresses covered in beads, sequins and rhinestones anyway.
I have been looking for essentially a similar type MOB dress for daughter’s Feb 2019 wedding in Jamaica. She has a traditional formal dress and the wedding will be a garden setting outside (not on the beach).
I’m having a hard time finding a tea-length, light fabric that seems appropriate. Especially one not in dark colors. The Komorov dresses are closer than any I’ve found so far.
I’ve seen photos on Pinterest of dresses I really like, but trying to trace them back to a source has proven unhelpful as they seem to be from UK shoppes or ads from several seasons ago in brides magazines but I can’t figure out the brands, designers, or anything concrete.
None of the stores in my city seem to have anything appropriate. It’s a good thing I have time to scour everywhere I can for some months. But I did not expect this aspect to be so hard.
I really like the fact that you mention comfort and a dress you already own and like. Tea length sounds great to me. Yes, you probably should get your D’s approval since it is her big day. Hopefully she will agree. I detect some practicality and casualness in the plans. Sounds like an enjoyable event ahead. I don’t think any hard and fast rules need to be followed.
My son is getting married in Puerto Rico next February and the bride wants me to wear something bright with tropical flowers. I haven’t found it yet (it’s still early) but I’m looking at these sites, as well as Anthropologie and Komarov.
Ha! I don’t own two Komarov dresses at $500 each. I have bought two but one is going back. I have literally ordered online and returned thousands of dollars in MOB dresses. Making sure my credit card statements are accurately crediting the returns will be a big job. I have four hanging in my closet that I will return today and another on the way from Nordstrom. Finding the right dress is taking a lot longer than I had expected.
Now it’s on to dressy shoes that are comfortable and don’t have the kind of heel that will get stuck in the grass.
@VeryHappy - some of the dresses in the Calvin Klein line have bright flowery fabrics.
@TatinG, keeping track of all the purchases and returns last year was a job in and of itself! However, being able to try things on at home was so worth it. Good luck.
