Hi! I am currently a high school sophomore and I need some help navigating what I need to do for the rest of high school and going into college. I apologizes if this is kinda all over the place.
I am thinking of going the pharmacy path but I will probably major in something like public health first as an undergraduate. Is that the way to go? I honestly do not want to major in biology or chemistry, so I feel the next best is public health/nutritional sciences. I feel I can explore more this way to see if I really want to do pharmacy. Any opinions?
The best pharmacy schools? Any pre-pharmacy/0-6 programs? What are the best schools with public health majors?
Any good internships or summer programs for high schoolers in relations to pharmacy, public, health, or just health sciences?
You can major in whatever you want for pharmacy school, but keep in mind that you will be taking a lot of biology and chemistry prerequisites. I looked at the program at my daughter’s school and they require physics, organic chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology etc.
Majoring in public health or nutritional sciences is perfectly fine if that is where your interests lie, but you will need the prerequisites for pharmacy. I agree that public health (or any major) will give you a chance to explore, try new things etc…and eventually decide if pharmacy is right for you or if your interests are elsewhere.
I would not consider early assurance programs. Pharmacy school will still be there 4-5-6 years from now.
HS activities will have no relation to pharmacy school acceptance. Do what you enjoy! If you want to learn about the profession I would try to interview a pharmacist, if possible. There are hospitals where I live that have short summer internships for HS students- mostly for career exploration. You could see if there are any programs like that near you.
Many schools have public health majors. The first step is to sit down with your parents and discuss a budget.
