What's Better Than a Half-Sui ??

I’m thinking of placing an extremely “to-go” order, for delivery during Spring Break.

I was thinking a half-sui might hit the spot. But then I remembered, last time I was back there seemed to be dozens of new items on the menu. In my day there was a PMP, and MBC, a Sui, and that’s basically all I remember. But more recently there seemed to be quite a lot more.

So: what’s better, these days? Assuming things are still “trucking on”.

If none of you have any idea what I’m talking about, that’s too bad.

Yes I know this promises to be less appealing upon delivery. I’m hoping a little oven time here will help.

There is a ton to choose from…but I’m a loyal WGC and CSC gal :)

What are those? I mean what’s in them?

WGC = Wet Garlic and Cheese…it’s just a PMP on garlic bread

CSC = chicken, sauce and cheese

hm… i think i’ve only seen the hot truck open once and that was on halloween night. i pass by it often, especially since one of my friends lives down the street from it, but i’ve never actually seen it open since halloween! does anyone know its hours?

haha, laughed when i heard monydad say “if you dont know what im talking about than thats too bad” and then another poster mentioned wgc and etc, and then he is like " whats that?" lol i dont know just mad eme laugh, random i know

martinez, it appears you are quite easily amused. I guess that’s a good thing.

I was not certain that the hot truck still existed, hence my comment about if you don’t know that’s too bad. Meaning people were missing out on something I enjoyed, if it was no longer around.

I also said that there seemed to be myriad new offerings since my time, hence taking suggestions . That is completely consistent with not knowing what all the new items are. If I knew what they all were, I wouldn’t have posted asking for suggestions, would I. Hence this does not seem equally amusing to me.

But since you bumped this, Spring break is not yet here and I am still taking suggestions.

monydad…you would be my hero if a WGC somehow made its way to New Orleans…hahahaha

"you would be my hero "
no pun intended…

So a regular PMP isn’t on garlic bread?

hahaha…good one!

No…a PMP is on regular italian bread

“In recent years, with Hot Truck subs available seven days a week, and 24 hours a day, at the Shortstop Deli,…”

Is this true? If so, where is the Shorstop Deli?

“If you’ve ever eaten a Stouffer’s French bread pizza, you owe it to the Hot Truck. It’s said that Stouffer’s copied the idea after a Cornell alumnus asked the company to make a frozen version of what Hot Truck founder Bob Petrillose called the Poor Man’s Pizza (aka a “PMP”).”

[The Hot Truck at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York | Serious Eats](The Hot Truck at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York)

First I heard of this. Anbody try these Stauffer’s French Bread pizzas? Are they pretty close?

The Shortstop is on West Seneca street in downtown Ithaca. And yes, you can get a Hot Truck sandwich any day and time of the week.

They also have a fantastic super caffeinated coffee that my friends and I always got before our late night cocktail lounge sessions.

It’s ok…but it’s just not the same as a PMP.

yeah monydad, i figured nobody else found it funny which was why i said me in particular, lol, i figured there was a reason but like ya said was just easily amused at the two quotes together without much else context

hot truck is still there, the hours are terrible tho, few years ago it was something like every night from 10pm-midnight with weekends going until like 2am, but like last year ish they changed it to ONLY thurs fri and sat from 10 or 11 to 3-4am , not sure what it is now

its like they cater for the drunks here, lol, id love to have it for lunch dinner , same with this west side express cornell a la carte thing thats only opened after like 10pm

if you cant make it to the dining halls by 730 or earlier you have to wait until 10pm to find food to eat , i hated that last 2 years, doesnt most ppl in the “real world” go to bed around 10-11pm? haha

The new hours are better, from an academic standpoint.

You see, west campus used to be freshman dorms (mostly), and the truck was open every night. So not infrequently, someone from the dorm would take orders from a bunch of people who were hanging out and/or studying in the dorm and go on a “truck run”. But the hot truck was so popular that once you went there you didn’t come back for hours. So you got no work done.

oh i c, but its outside at a parking meter how do you hang out there for hours? weather too, lol, unless u mean take the food inside and then chill

and i mean dont most people eat dinner around 5-7 too, see i work on the schedule of sleeping by 11 and dinner at like 6 best, hard to do in college, but its more like the way our body was designed for i hear and i believe the way everybody out of college typically operates

I don’t know if it was in the exact same location then as it is now. Then it was on Stewart Avenue, behind U Hall #1 I think. Which isn’t there any more.

But when you got down there, if there were say ten people ahead of you, and each of them was getting orders for ten people from their dorm/ frat, you were going to be waiting a while. It was often a long wait till they took your order. People just sat around waiting and BS’ed. There was a staircase right near where the truck was parked, people sat on and around the stairs. And yes, sometimes it was really cold. If you want your food, tough.

When I was there…it was still hanging out on Stewart Ave behind the Alice Cook House.

yeah it seems its in the same place, about 2 bus lengths from stewart and university ave intersection

now you can go or call and place and order, and they tell you how much time to wait and you come back and its generally ready, ppl still wait too mostly but you can come back

Nothing is better than a 1/2 Sui (except perhaps a full Sui). Although the ones I have gotten at the Truck during reunions and visiting my sons at Cornell were not as good as those Bob used to turn out, they still are amazing (the only sandwich for which I break my low carb diet).

Just saw this, somebody should take him up on this, seriously.

Or, perhaps better yet, skip the rest and do the Hot Truck part. Someplace near me.
