What's for dinner at your house tonight?

We’re a big football game family…but instead of the usual football food, I broke with tradition today and made a big pot of vegetable barley soup and a large antipasto salad.

I’m another one who dislikes goat cheese, but loves feta cheese, yes in the block form.

Now that DH and I are home alone with DS7 I find myself at a crossroads as far as cooking. I am trying new things (although my two pickiest eaters are here with me lol) and also hard pressed to find things to cook that won’t yield too many leftovers.

Tonight we had strip steaks (DS loves his A-1), peas from our garden, acorn squash, and the Pioneer Woman’s “Crash Hot Potatoes”. I really wanted something Italian but DH said we already had lasagna one night this week and pizza another so he was sauced out lol. I could eat sauce almost every day I think.

I wanted to make some pumpkin cookies for dessert but I have been working all week here and there to remove some wallpaper border in our living room and now am scrubbing off the paste (which I was doing off and on all day).

Tonight we had pot roast. It was perfect.

Chicken Caesar salad with one of last night’s grilled chicken breasts. Homemade dressing. Fresh grated parmigiana reggiano cheese. Not a low cal dinner by any stretch of the imagination, but a tasty one.

Ginger Pumpkin Cauliflower soup tonight and chocolate fudgy pie ala mode for desert.

Milkandsugar - that sounds awesome!

Corn chowder here for dinner. Sunday brunch was tofu scramble - I use the super firm small cubes with lots of onions, red peppers, spices, and small roasted potatoes all mixed together. I top it with some fresh salsa and chopped avocado. One of my favorite Sunday meals.

Momof3stars:

My family LOVES those crash hot potatoes too. I also make them with sweet potatoes and cut them in half when boiling so that they’ll cook a bit faster…I made them recently with russet potatoes…not as good as when I make them with the new red potatoes, which add a huge buttery dimension that the russets were lacking…

Looks like a lot of soups have been eaten in many households the last few days! Cooler weather will do that!

I had the most delicious box of Kraft Mac and Cheese…but then I drove 7 hours after traveling home from Europe the night before. I am plotting and planning something tasty for tonite…and less processed. I am just glad I had a box of it home :)

Mrs. Souse’s birthday, so her favorite meal: smoked ribs, baked beans and three pieces of apple pie, all washed down with ersatz champagne

A guilty pleasure dinner - BLT sliders! Yummy, easy & everyone loves them. We make them either on some form of a dinner roll ( ie. Martin’s potato rolls or King Hawaiian rolls or just plain dinner rolls). Make the bacon ahead of time (sometimes we use turkey bacon), have a bag of pre-chopped romaine, a tomato on hand and we are good to go. Sometimes we add turkey or avocado to the sandwich just to change it up a bit!

Going to look up “Crash Hot Potatoes”!!! Sounds interesting!

Wow, those look great!!!

chocchipcookie: I have mostly used the baby red potatoes as well but also have tried new white potatoes. I like the flavor of the reds better and once I finish off this bag I am going to try some other varieties.

abasket: This recipe is just so easy and perfect for those nights when you have no idea what else to cook! The hardest part is boiling the potatoes long enough to make them soft enough to smoosh lol.

Last night was Beef Stroganoff over spinach noodles with salad and steamed broccoli.

Tonight will be lasagna with whole wheat noodles made using the home-made marinara from earlier this summer’s excessive tomato crop. Meat layer is 1/2 ground beef/sweet Italian sausage and 1/2 chopped sauteed eggplant–which my garden is still producing in copious amounts.

Tomorrow night will be Potato, Leek and Ham soup.

D1 has requested more home-made tomato soup. (Also made from garden tomatoes.)

Veggie chili and hominy: http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/46230_10100521386119831_1277509430_n.jpg

and

Apple crisp: http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/250582_10100521516388771_1511804255_n.jpg

Wait! We can post photos on CC?! That’s awesome!
I love apple crisp!

Last night was steak on the grilled, baked potato and Caesar salad from a bag.

Tonight, I am hoping I delay long enough so DH decides to make dinner.

Last night, grilled cheese and tuna sandwiches.

Tonight, burgers and salad.

The kids were home this weekend so tonight it will be scrambled eggs with frozen chopped spinach in them and a handful of grated parmesan. I will probably steam some fingerling potatoes and toss them with olive oil and salt. Then leftover apple cake.

Tonight, dinner will be a cup of Starbucks from the coffee shop downstairs and some yogurt brought from home, since I have to go to a class. Mr B will have to get by with whatever he finds in the fridge…
Tomorrow is a different story - I will be making beef kabobs on the grill with sauteed broccoli on the side. Yum.

Does anyone have a good, authentic, made-from-scratch-with-yeast recipe for Pain au Chocolat? Something that does NOT start with frozen pastry dough? Many thanks in advance!

I don’t, but I do know where you can find a tasty finished product…
