What's involved in transferring?

My son is a freshman at a small LAC in New England. He doesn’t like it, and feels like he doesn’t fit in. It turns out all the kids go to parties and drink on Friday and Saturday nights. My son is not partier or drinker, and he is having trouble finding like-minded students on campus. I think he’s almost too late to transfer for second semester. Does he need teacher recs, transcripts, everything as if he were applying all over again to a college? When is all the stuff due? I’m thinking he’d be better to stick it out for second semester and apply for sophomore transfer. Any advice?

What’s required depends on the university in question. To transfer to the University of Oklahoma, I simply submitted my HS and college transcripts, SAT scores, and clicked which major I wanted to get into. The university published the GPA and minimum number of credits requirement for each college.

At other schools, transferring is more involved. This is particularly true for selective privates where a professor/ dean letter of recommendation is required.
